Recommend games for my new PC

Supreme Commander- Best RTS in a long time.

Medieval 2: Total War- I loved this game. There are tons of mods for it too. Lots of strategy and a little economical management.

The Witcher: Best RPG I have played in awhile. For the most part the game is non-linear, but you HAVE to do certain things a certain way occasionally. A minor fault though. The combat is fun, the story is great, and it has kept me entertained for many hours.

Lost Planet and Gears of War are utter shit.

Are they really that bad?! I simply can't ignore DDD's advice, but they seemed so good in the vids and pics I've seen... :?

Well, feel free to try them out yourself, but my advice is to stay away. GoW seems like it has nice graphics at places but you soon realise just how unoriginal and unimaginative they are, as is the whole game. The cover system gunfights look cool on paper and in youtube videos but are unintuitive, sluggish and repetitive in action.
All in all it's a very overrated game.
Gears of war is a great game, never seen another game that uses the cover system as they do/did. You hate it because its a console game? Or because you suck at it?

Well, it IS a pretty generic game. Fun in co-op, but as action games go, CoD4 takes the cake.

@Wooz
From the past 1,5 years, yes. But I wouldn't call it the best computer game in the history of mankind. Even in the FPS category.
Not that you said that, it's just what I see from the reviews and the comments of our dear gamer friends around the globe.

But I wouldn't call it the best computer game in the history of mankind.

Nobody did.

IMO, it's the best *action* game in years. Probably since HL2, which appealed to me mostly by its East European SF dystopia setting.

Crazy guy detected! Dawn of War/Company of Heroes are the best RTS's in a long time (Dawn of War 2, having the best of both, will dump them in one shot).

Seriously, SupCom is horrible, don't count on me to play that...

Rainbow Six: Vegas did it much better (although it wasn't a much better game). Getting sucked into cover when attempting to do something else and unloading a whole mag into an enemies face without effect are not my idea of "great".

I hate it because it is a severely overrated bad game, nothing to do with it being a console game. Although I would emphasize that fact that most "teh best counsole gaem EVA!!!!oneone!!" usually suck when played on and compared to PC games.

Also, don't troll or I'll beat you like a red headed step child.

Worst comback ever.

No, your failure to address any of my arguments and instead resorting to flaming a moderator and getting a strike is the worst comeback ever.

Thanks, Wooz, I wish I could have gotten to it earlier.

Guys, is Assassin's Creed beatable? I mean, is it an ok game that any experienced gamer can beat without screaming in anger and frustration because the game is too hard even on easy? If not, I'll take it off my list.

I ask this because I noticed this game is from Ubisoft, and I hate that company as much as people here hate Bethesda; I've played The Prince of Persia trilogy and couldn't beat any of the games, because they always come to a point were thing become fucking impossible.

Examples: 1) the elevator near the end in Sands of Time; I could beat the guards given time and some patience to restart a crapload of times, but it's impossible to keep that woman alive. 2) the twin boses in Two Thrones; I know there's a specific way do defeat them (which I think is ridiculous), but I never had the balls to do it just becaue I new things were going to be even worse after that. I wonder how homungously, insanely difficult (aka: impossible) the battle with the Vizir and the Dark Prince are... no wait, I don't. Fuck Prince of Persia ¬¬

Also, Far Cry is another bad joke from Ubisoft. After the Dam all hell breaks lose, and despite stopping the game 3 times (1 in the dam, 2 in the lava mountain full of giants using rocket-launchers), I came to the final lab. God, I still have nightmares with that (indestructible riot-shields lol).

It's fucking ridiculous how this company always screws it's games, which are indeed cool and well done, by making them unbeatable in the end. Thus I ask, should I consider buing Assassin's Creed, or is it just another Prince of Persia with "oober grapheex"?

Err... sorry for the long post - and the rant. :-/

Ubisoft > Bethesda.

Please don't use these two names in one sentence, or I'll presonally come to Brazil and beat you with a rusty axe until what's left of you agrees that Ubisoft is great. ;)

I'm about to play AC, and we shall see.

There's a difference between a "developer" and a "publisher".

Crytek made Far Cry. Ubisoft published it.

AC is beatable. I'd say its pretty easy since it has lots of checkpoints and not much of time pressure challenges and Al-tair is a killing machine.

Also, don't expect a heavy stealth based game since stealth implementation here is limited to line of sight acquisition. Plus, you don't even have to be stealthy in your kills and many of the game's tasks require you to go rambo on enemies.

As for Ubi > Bethesda, I think they are both good at maiming established game franchises (Ubi: Rainbow Six: Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Bethesda: Morrowind, Oblivion). But at least Ubi places a subtitle of some sort to differentiate the games mentioned from their more respectable predecessors.

So I hope Ubi resurrects Raindbow 6 and Ghost Recon

I didn't mean Ubi = Beth, I just hate them both at the same level. But if you come, tell me before so I can put some beers in the freezer and get my rusty machete - now that will be a fight

My bad, sorry. But I'll bet they loved the way Crytek made the game's final levels so fucking insane. By the way, does Crysis follow the same path, or it more rational by the end than Far Cry was?

AC actually has that exact problem you mention.

In one of the last fights (second to last I think) you have to fight 10(!) of the thoughest enemies in the game and only after that miraculous feat do you get to fight the boss dude! It's like some moron on the design team went "That difficulty curve thing? Fuck that, let's make it hella easy until this point where we turn it up to 11, yeeeeaaaaaaah!!

I swear I spent one and a half fucking hours fighting those bitches and it took me atleast 30 mins to even get to the part where the boss came out!

This was on the PS3 of course, might be easier with PC controls. fat chance

Apart from that, and a few other stupid things, it's actually pretty fun. I love crawling up the rooftops to some archers post and jamming a blade in his throat just because.

I never finished Far Cry and I must say, besides the graphics, this game sucks ass totally.
