Another Bethesda dev speaks on the Elder Scrolls forums and here's what he said:
Actually the press release was announcing that Bethesda had secured the rights to create Fallout 3 and subsequent sequels. The press release does not announce the game nor any specifics about it -- it's a business announcement. And it had to be made, because it is important and affects more than one company.

This information is all brand-new. It's something that only became known to many of us at Bethesda a couple weeks ago, and only became official last week. We have also been very busy working on non-Fallout related projects. Any thought that has gone into what a Fallout 3 developed by Bethesda Softworks is minimal at best, and it is going to be quite some time before you hear anything else about it, because quite frankly we haven't even had a CHANCE to think much about what we're going to do with this new franchise.

Anything that's said about the game now -- features, game systems, camera style, gameplay style, platforms, etc. -- is 100% speculation. NO DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. So have patience. As soon as we know more and are prepared to make a detailed unveiling, we will let you know. But don't be surprised if that day is a ways off.
Right, still... LISTEN TO US!

So they dont even know what theyre doing..that just fills me to the brim with confidence!

God, do you have even the slightest idea of what goes into a game? You think people just decide to make a game and instantly have the whole thing mapped out on the same day?

Erm you do know that they usually plan these things in advance right?! But Bethesda needs to set the record straight, Pete is only making things worse...

Yes, we want answers. If they're not sure what to do with it, give it to Troika. At least they know.

Oh, they usually have games completely designed on the day they decide to make it, before they even start working on it?

Yeah, ok.

Ok, I have lurked this site long enough, time to post something...

I read the news last night and thought ok it could be worse. :(
Than I read Troika almost got the license, I started getting mad. :x
Then I read all the contradictory statements, I got madder.
I read the IGNPC interview, and everything fall apart.
Now we are supposed to believe these were all speculation!?!? Then why the fuck did you say it!!!

Here are my thoughts in the game...

What the ideal Fallout 3 would be:
- Silent Storm style engine. The graphics were great and Turn Based combat worked out better than I hoped.
- SPECIAL
- The great atmosphere, great dialogue, great NPCs etc. etc. etc.

What would be OK:
- A 3rd person view with a free camera.
- Turn Based combat, with an optional real time with pause.
- SPECIAL
- The great atmosphere, etc. etc. etc.

What we will probably get:
- 3rd person view like Gothic.
- Real time with paused combat.
- SPECIAL
- An atmosphere that resembles the one of the first games, ok dialogue, ok story, ok NPCs etc. etc. etc.

I'll go torch their building down personally even if I have to hitchhike my way there if they do:
- 1st person view.
- Real time combat only.
- Touch the SPECIAL system for anything other than optimization.
- Disfigured the setting.

Oh, sorry, but I don't remember you being in charge of Bethesda, or otherwise entitled to any answers. Also, you seriously don't think that it's ridiculous to demand that they turn the license over to a different company because they don't have the design done in one day?

Your ignorance is appalling. You don't think they plan a game in advance, before starting it? That they just go day by day and get new ideas daily? Sorry, they have entire teams working on planning only.

You think they just bought the license because they felt like it? No, my naive and stubborn friend, they have plans for it. Lots of plans. And they better tell us about it soon, before it's too late for feedback.

THEY BOUGHT THE LICENSE YESTERDAY! WHY WOULD THEY START WORKING ON A GAME BEFORE THEY HAD THE FUCKING LICENSE!

They announced they got the license yesterday, they probably closed the deal sometime last week. But even before getting the license they would be stupid not to have a plan to what they are doing with it...

you just don't buy an expensive license just to go to your conferenceroom and go "ok, we got it, now what are we going to do with it?"

first there are plans. what can we make out of it and how? what can we expect as a revenue from that? etc.

Wow. You know, for a forum full of people who hate Bethesda so much, there sure are a lot of people here who are intimately familiar with their every corporate move.

Most companys usually plan things to see what they can get out of a license before they buy it, That said lets all pray they don't have their heads firmly up their asses and somehow make something at least decent...not that I have any hope of that.

Who said we hate Bethesda ? We don't, but we don't like the various things that Pete Hines have put forward..

I particularly don't hate Bethesda, I think its a stupid name and hate having to write but that doesn't mean I hate it. I played a lot of Daggerfall and a little of Morrowind and they really aren't my style of RPGs. I recognize they have some pretty strong points but they also have some very weak ones...

That said, they just spent A LOT of money buying the fallout license, doing that without having a basic plan on how they would use it would be stupid at least...

Like what?

"We aren't going to make a Baldur's Gate-style game."

"We aren't worried about the ESRB rating right now."

"Nothing is finalized yet."

God, you're a bunch of whiny little children. You don't want to play Fallout 3. It's that simple. You hate Interplay, and you hate Bethesda because that's who Interplay sold the rights to. You're just looking for an excuse to complain.

There is a thing called industry standard. they have just spent millions on purchasing the rights to publish that game.
don’t you think they know to some extent what they are going to do with it? don’t you think they had to show some design plans to the executives in order to approve a spending of this magnitude?

Listen kid, we've followed this game since you were in diapers and quite frankly know how this game *should* be made, hell all the old bis guys even agree with us.

I've earlier said that if they want to do a first person Fallout then do it, just don't call it Fallout 3. But we're trying to warn Bethesda about the risks of radically changing a known franchise towards something that it's not. Look at the various titles that have tried this, like X-Com...where is that now ??? DEAD....

Get a grip sonny..
