Replaying Wasteland

So... due to the current hype, I am replaying Wasteland again. Anyone else feeling the need to do a replay? I mean, I probably won't finish the replay, but I started a new group anyway and made it up to Quartz now, blasting away some punks 'n stuff. Beside my normal 4 desert rangers, I've got Mayor Pedros and Jackie with me. Though, I find Jackie highly annoying... just keeping that child around, because it's a child.

I have never played this game yet. I'm not of the kind of people that just can't live without new graphics, but this game seems to be totally unplayable to me. Mostly because it's in turbo mode whenever I walk, pressing left slightly and walking all across the world map in a step.

Have there been any mods for it? Or DosBOX is my only solution?

I would really love to play the game, but somehow the sound puts me off, I dont really mind the graphics, they are functional. I know from other old MIDI sound games that they got newer remixes done with VSTI instruments, maybe there is something for this game too?

Playing a videogame without sound/muted sound is no option for me either.

Then I would play the game "fo'sure". ;)

have the fallout 1/2 soundtrack playing in youtube in the backround?

I don't know, Fallout is Fallout. Wasteland is Wasteland. ;)
I want to listen to the original music, not Fallout - having a random playlist of Fallout tracks screws up the games pacing aswell.

If someone has the MIDI music files of the Wasteland game, I would even "polish" them myself with modern Virtual instruments and synths and upload for them for others. Or, someone gives me a link to those files (they are legal to download, I assume?)

You can adjust the speed of the emulation with CTRL-F11 and CTRL-F12 in DosBox.

I recommend checking out D-Fend Reloaded, a frontend for DosBox that allows you to setup each game individually.

Just don't use the mouse, but the keyboard. Then the speed doesn't matter. If someone just can't get through the controls and stuff (like me, in the very beginning), the solution is easy: Read the manual. There everything (and an intro to the game) is written down, which makes all things much more clear and less cryptic.

Also I realize, we now have a "Wasteland Discussion" board. :>

There's actually not that much sounds to the game, so you're not missing much. The in-game text scrolling can be slowed down too.

Your best bet is getting the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. soundtrack and playing Wasteland with it.

I have played Wasteland but never advanced much in it... It was too hard for me to "stomach" the graphics and sound.

Maybe I should try again, I don't know, but perhaps, now that Wasteland 2 is going to exist, we will have something similar to what happened with Fallout:

-I love Fallout! FO3 was a lot of fun, etc! And New Vegas was really cool as well!
-Shut up, you can't say you like Fallout if you never played the original games with their isometric perspective and 2d!

...but with Wasteland this time.

I've been playing through Wasteland, but I'm kinda stuck at the moment. I'm over at Vegas and the robots keep kicking my poor ass. All I need is an AK because that's what most of my original party is based off. I've checked Quartz/Needles (wherever Per's guide pointed to), but to my dismay found nothing in the shops.

Seriously, I need that gun. Then we'll be talking. Axes can't really do much against the Scorpitrons, you know.

Vegas is intended to be nasty, even when you have Rad Suits (AC 5) or Kevlar Suits (AC 6).

AK97s or NATO1989s can be effective in Vegas but you will burn through ammunition quickly.

You will use a lot of 7.62mm fast if you wander the main map of Vegas when fighting random encounters. You need to save that ammo for other more important areas in Vegas.

I recommend you complete all tasks first in Quartz and Needles before progressing to Vegas.

There is a shop that sells AK97s and NATO1989s but it is not located in the Vegas area.

Yes, I do! Have met Harry the Bunny Master yesterday, great fun. So far, those written paragraphs are the best part of game, I still haven't managed to learn all the controls. (Never finished it before, due to my crappy English.)

I agree wholeheartedly.

This is the internet, and we like to bitch excessively about people who want to be in the cool club but aren't cool enough. For some it will be karma, really. Maybe it'll teach some people on this board tolerance for the new guy...and maybe I'm a chinese jet pilot.

I'd love to give this game a shot but like many on this thread it's unplayable for me at this point. I'll enjoy the sequel and appreciate it for what it is.

Wasteland is definitely on my 'To Play' list, once I find the time to do so.

Beware, it's highly addictive!
There is a neat combat system, plus pretty rough opponents. I have entered a random building in a small town of Quartz, being ambushed and slaughtered immediately by some angry punks. :)
Finally, I realized how to create a good party, I'm going to kick their arses now.

I'ma gonna do this properly and hunt down a real disk version of it. Interplay 10 year Anthology for only a tenner? Don't mind if I do.

Haven't you tried grenades?
They worked fine for me. Only thing you need is at least one point invested in a Demolitions skill, then you can start tossing without any fear. :)
A bunch of robots can be destroyed during a single combat round with one grenade, just wait until they will approach at ~20 feet or so.

Wasteland

When I played Wasteland it was really fun I like all the old RPG games, but still I have to say Fallout was better than Wasteland, but Wasteland has a lot to offer.

if u've played fallout1/2 firstly, playing Wasteland would be like a retrospective adventure, u'll encounter many familiar stuffs..
