Well, I'm *sure* that this is old news for you people, but this new game called 'Restricted Area' looks kind of promising to me. Apparently it deals with a wasted world scenario and mutants and stuff. The screenshots look good as well (well, some of them do). Best news: it should be released in Q1 of 2004 and that's pretty soon.

What do you guys think?

Never been there, never done that.
Looks good, id buy that game. Let me know the day its relesed :)

Wow, looks really cool. Definitly have to start following that game now.

Here's Gamespy's description:
2083 - The world’s cities have been grown larger and larger until they merge together; the entire planet becomes covered by one large city. The only exceptions are the oceans and the so-called Wastelands, contaminated deserts with ruins and shelters where only mutants live. The global companies have become more powerful than the government and the large organizations now rule the world. To protect their secrets from criminal freelancers who steal them for other companies, they build large subterrestrial fortresses far out in the Wastelands.
Technology is now far more advanced - cyber implants and genetically enhanced organs replace most external equipment and can be bought to increase your abilities, going far beyond the possibilities of a normal human. The weapons didn’t change much, except for some powerful but rare energy weapons. Smog covers the atmosphere over the mega city so the light is always dim, but colorful commercial projections and lanterns make up for the lack of light. This stands in contrast to the merciless, continuously shining sun over the Wastelands. Humans discovered a science fiction similar to a kind of magic - PSI. It is a form of Para-psychological abilities like telepathy, psycho kinesis and clairvoyance. Also most buildings have an internal network called Cyberspace, and with the right skills you can hack into the security systems and travel there like in a totally different world.

I thought Shadowrun was out on the Genesis and the SNES already??? :P

Ohh damn youv'e gotten me all excited about this game. Bastards! How am i ever to get some sleep?

EDIT: It now says Q4 :(

Ok...after reading and watching a lot of stuff on the game, I'm really not that excited anymore. Its not really an RPG. Its more of a Diablo type game. There are also only 4 characters you can play, and they have fixed stats. The ingame video also doesn't look all that spectacular. The 2d prerendered backgrouns look really nice, but the character animations don't look that special. Also, I was looking at the FAQ, and the developers chose to not include ammo in the game, meaning you never ever run out.
Is there ammunition?
No. We decided against ammunition. Shooting enemies is an important part of the game. If you don’t have ammunition, you don’t have fun. Of course we could place so much that the character carries always an unrealistic high amount (We've heard of archers who can carry 350 arrows..." - LOL :o) "...), but then we may as well not bother with ammunition at all. Instead, weapons can have features that in reality ammunition would have (armor piercing), which also allows us to generate more different weapons of each type.

One beef with this game, the action/view area is extremly limited. Ie the use of shadows/FOW..

Lots of info on this game at RPG Codex, including an interview, a dev chat log, and an introduction to the character system. Jan Beuck, one of the main guys on the game, kicks around there as well.

Heeeey just make it look more like Fallout! (but doesn't it a bit now?) Kick that magic out, gimme good ol' Desert Eagle, Pancor Jackhammer, .223 pistol, plasma rifle, M72 or PPK12, Vindy and Bozar :D:D and LOTS more. Teh main character loox like Yakuza.

Why ain't no Vaults there? :)
