RIP 3d Realms?

That's what happens when you're a developer that doesn't actually release any damn games. Ah well. Duke will always have a place in my heart, and perhaps it's best, since DNF might not have lived up to the legacy (much less the hype and expectations, but who cares about those?) and would have been a bitter disappointment.

Kind of like another sequel I know about.

This has been a weird day for the gamer in me.

DNF seemingly croaks, Thief 4 is all but announced to the world and Lord British is suing NCSoft for more money than I'll ever see in my entire life...because he went into space.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly?

They're saying the title will not be affected. Reading bits so far, I undrstood it to mean the portable spinoffs are still a go but I'm not sure about DNF since nobody clarifies anything.

I don't understand why I have to keep hearing about this game.

Sad news.
Not that i was looking particulary looking forward to DNF, since no one knew if it would ever come out. But I always had the feeling that, IF it ever came out, it'd rock...

Don't wanna sound like a moron, but : serves them well...What the hell did they expect ? I mean even fuckin' Chinese Democracy was released...

Scott Miller has been transferring all 3D Realms titles to "Radar Group" for a while now. Look at the projects listed on their site: http://www.radargroup.com/projects.html

There are 2 Unannounced Projects at the end, with a nuclear mushroom as the banner...

Perhaps they'll transfer Duke as well and continue developing it there.

Besides that, the following was spotted on the 3D Realms' forum:

Read these carefully
------------------------------------------------------------ ----------

Closing out a milestone this week. 71 more tasks to do and we started with probably 800-900. Been a good push. Next one starts Monday.

Heading home. Got some music for the game and commented. Have a couple more things to close out tomorrow for milestone. 24 is on!!!

We're catering BBQ tomorrow for the team at work. I'm hungry now just thinking about it. Now I have to sleep, thinking about it. Crap.

BBQ has arrived!

Bought a 128gig external SSD drive and am copying the game down to it now. I have one in my Macbook Air and love it. They are great.

Now that to me sounds like they reached the end and had a celebration dinner.

Apparently these are quotes from George Broussard's Twitter.

I swear a 4 person mod team could have built it by now. Thanks for the Radar link, while I disliked Doom 3 I really loved Prey and it makes me happy to see a Prey 2 being worked on.

I did not expect much from Duke Nukem Forever but I would have loved to play it for an hour or two just out of nostalgia.

I think Rosh forsaw this 3 or 4 years ago. Personally, I stopped caring about DNF a while back, especially after Prey's release, but it's still sad news. I guess after 12 years of mismanagement it was only natural, sudden as it was.

ps. George's twitter for anyone wondering.

Why? Prey was awesome. I don't think it was done by 3D realms either but I'm not sure.

Prey was done by Human Head but supervised by 3DR. It did nothing with portals, except for some superficial gimmicks, and was not ambitious at all compared to the original project. Yet another run-of-the-mill shooter. Since 3DR thought Prey was up to their standard, my expectations dropped down to zero.
