Has anyone read Roadside Picnic, the book which both the Tarkovsky classic Stalker, and the recent post-apoc video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. were based off?

Read it, loved it.

Much more interesting than the plot that the STALKER game didn't really bother telling.

It is available in its entirety here.

Yes, I tried reading it online, but it felt like I was staring through wet glass after a while.

I know the feeling.

Lately though, these short novelss and online versions of Lovecraft's classics that have been keeping me sane at work.

I am looking to buy a print copy, but haven't felt like actually going out to look for one or pay for online shipping.

All the game requires is attention, patience and ability to logically connect the events.

I had no problem with following the plot.

I've read it. A great book indeed. Actually, reading the book made me love the game even more and appreciate all the little details taken from the book.

Following the plot itself wasn't much of an issue. I just found this plot to be somewhat disjointed, sparsely presented and occasionally disappointing (as well as an overall feeling of being lost in translation). As brilliant as the ambiance was, the storytelling itself felt a bit...flat; stuck in a sore spot between standard FPS fare and non-linearity.

The book did make identifying some references interesting (mostly the names of anomalies though).

I can't read books online either, after a few pages my eyes feel like they're going to fall out

Hello all,

I actually finished this before I knew it, I thought I was only on chapter Four but there aren't apparently more.
