I just got this idea for an option to mark locations on your pipboy. In the same fashion your pipboy does with special encounters.

(I told Marcus and skynet to wait for me in a random encounter, cuz I wanted to make an nice screenshot, then I walked out of the map and I hadn't saved for hours. Very frustrating indeed, but I accepted the loss, until I realize Skynet had the FOB!!) :-(

It would also be pretty handy for people who want to have a cave or farm as a base, instead of the Raiders Base or the Chop Shop, wich would be far better.

Further more a memo section could be included as well as a travel log (map with dates or a diary)
and a section for gathered information (clues, was also in the Fallout 1 demo I have) next to the quest lists.

A calculator. Don't start laughing right away, it could calculate estimated traveltimes between city's.

A encyclopedia containing basic survival information, information gathered on critters, towns and technology and in some cases even some useful advice.

Perhaps, (read: 'perhaps') even an option to communicate with the vault(s) or more advanced city's like Vault City or perhaps even NCR.

Or how about the option to modify it later on in the game. Like adjusting it to detect traps, radiation OR something else (just one modification)

It isn't quite as unrealistic as it may seem, in Fo2 as well the Sheriff of VC as the Vault 8 computer tell you that your version of the pipboy is inferior.

At least, will Black Isle please include the first suggestion. I apologize for not following their advice to save often, but I thought that would make the game riscier (and I was right too) ;-)

Anyone who WANTS to lose NPC's say NEE.

Oh, I'll start working on a screenshot too show you guys what I meant, and after that I'll try to figure out how to post it. CUl8r

Make that Robco Pipboy 2000 Deluxe - Limited Edition

This is sad. This is sad indeed. Being the first one to reply to one's own message.

However I would appreciate it if anyone would be able to tell me how to post images (adjusted screenshot). The pipboy scrn I now have still doesn't look like what it's gonna be, be looks a lot like what I was gonna use for my Save Fallout 3 website.

Well, as you saw the name's changed and I have another small thing to ad to the options for the new Pipboy:

Holodisks with minigames like Tetris or Pong. (difficulty levels: easy - normal - hard - Pipboy)

As for the Enceclypedea, You could have your pipboy gather info on the effectiveness of certain attacks with certain types of ammo on certain critters, wich is gathered from a certain Chosen One's certain encounters with a certain Species. (God, I certainly just love a certain word!!!)

Put it somewhere on a website and post the url to the board. Make sure that the place you use to store the picture allows picture linking. So Xoom is out of the question.

RE: Make that Robco Pipboy 2000 Deluxe - Limited Edition

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jun-29-00 AT 01:35PM (GMT)[p]I like the idea of a encyclopedia where the more often you encounter a critter the more knowledge you possess of it. Maybe you can't make targeted shots at a creatures eyes until u have killed enough to know where they are, etc. Also can anyone tell me what the scewed up part of the pip boy should have represented? Anyway I also like the idea of a base that you have for yourself. Maybe you can drop off a NPC you don't like to much there and station it as a guard or whatever. Also the motin scanner should be an upgrade to the pip boy cause I found it wasn't worth lugging it around in my inventory when it weighs ten pounds.

RE: Make that Robco Pipboy 2000 Deluxe - Limited Edition

Let me get this straight. I can't just put it here, it has be somewhere else first? I'll see.

The screwed up part of the pipboy (I repaired that in the Screenshot and added 4 more buttons) was, in the demo I had, a clues section. It was sort of a quest list only then it also listed information gathered during them. Or at least, that's what the 'buy-the-full-version' message said when I clicked it. The quests are now at status. (funny thing: in the demo the pipboy was fully intact).
I posted about the base idea before, don't try it again, either they love the idea or they hate it, but there's no middle route, just a little advice.

The pipboy has maps, and I think that the Automap option in fact belonged to the pipboy all along, so basically the motionscanner was a pipboy upgrade. And it wasn't completely useless either, having it in your inventory gives +20% outdoorsman skill.

RE: Make that Robco Pipboy 2000 Deluxe - Limited Edition

I know its a pip boy upgrade but I meant if you could sort of attach it to your pipboy instead of having the extra weight in your inventory would make it better and a more attractive proposition.

RE: Make that Robco Pipboy 2000 Deluxe - Limited Edition

how about a polygraph tester on it (=lie detector, I just like to act I'm smart) or a detenator device for bomb (no more explosives that go of to early because of inept handling.)

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jul-10-00 AT 04:48PM (GMT)[p]>...a memo section could
>be included...
Yeah, it's a thing I always felt needed while having quests in SF (I could never remember all those Chinese names and had to come back several times in a row).

>...as well as
>a travel log (map with
>dates or a diary)
A good idea as well but I'm not sure if they manage to make it look realistic enough, not like:
"Feb 12. Entered NCR.
Feb 13. Left NCR.
Feb 15. Entered Mutant Village. Left Mutant Village."

>and a section for gathered information
>(clues, was also in the
>Fallout 1 demo I have)
>next to the quest lists.
I think they could just reveal the clues as you clicked on a quest name.

>A calculator...
>...it could calculate estimated
>traveltimes between city's.
Well, I don't think someone really needs it (esp. because travel times always differ and the game time is not limited, at least in Fallout 2).

>A encyclopedia containing basic survival information,
>information gathered on critters, towns
>and technology and in some
>cases even some useful advice.
And this could be useful but it has to be updated when you either install a patch for it or learn anything related. And it's rather hard to do the last.

>...an option
>to communicate with the vault(s)
>or more advanced city's like
>Vault City or perhaps even
>NCR.
This will only be needed if you do any job for them or have some useful guys there. And who are you going to talk to if you kill everyone there?

>...the option to
>modify it later on in
>the game. Like adjusting it
>to detect traps, radiation OR
>something else (just one modification)
Remember, it's a PDA, Personal Data Advisor, not a Skynet 2.

Talking about games, it would be good if they were funny, not just tetris or tic-tac-toe (like a "screensaver" in Pipboy).

Anyways, I think BIS just HAS to do something to Pipboy because it's hard to rely on yourself in such a complicated game (and I think Fallout 3 will be even more complicated).

"Talking about games, it would be good if they were funny, not just tetris or tic-tac-toe (like a "screensaver" in Pipboy)."

There already is a pipboy screensaver in Fallout 2, you know, the dropping bombs. As for a funny game, how about 'Fallout Online' (not real, just something that has that name, really bad graphics and gets stuck in TB al the time)

The Calculator option was more for the idea and to fill space than serious.

Yeah, the screensaver was what I meant. I don't think it will be fun to drop blocks instead of playing Fallout unless those blocks will have something funny in them.
I don't think there will be need in filling space if all (or at least something) of what we've suggested is added to Pipboy.

Handn't thought about that, like the idea. Often wished I could start my own homestead out in the wastes. Could feature a couple cosmetic upgrades for features like motion sensor or detonator.
I'd like to see stealth play a bigger role and PIP could be vital for recon updates.

Posting FILES

This is actually very simple.
A PICTURE FILE, is merely a bunch of NUMBERS represnting an IMAGE...
The way A PROGRAM you use reads it, will define what eventually you will see...

For example, i can invent an MP3 PLAYER that can also play BMPs, or JPGs...
It assumes a basic HEADER (though you don't know what that is) and treats the whole file as data of an MPEG3 file.

Of course that what you would hear would be a bunch of nonsense that sounds like RADIO-noise...
But still - EVERY BIT OF SOUND that you will hear, is read from the IMAGE FILE...
A different image would make different sounds...
And the same way you can PRESENT IMAGE of an mp3.
You just read it like you read an image, and this is what will happen...
The image will look like a big mess of pixels.

SOOOOO -
A file is a bunch of numbers - in short.
Even an image file.
Even an EXE...
So - what happens when you want to show us an image file in this message board?
Well, where is it located?
Where are those numbers?
THEY ARE ON YOUR HARD-DRIVE...

But you are not always connected to the internet, and even when you are, you are not always connected to this message board!!!!
So how will we see your image when you are not connected?!!

CORRECT- you have to put it somewhere which is ALWAYS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET, and people who connect to this site can ALWAYS connect to that location (automaticly) when viewing your image....

I hope you understand this simple thing, so far...

ANYWAY
So WHERE WILL YOU PUT IT?
On this site?
Humm...
So you really think that Miroslav will now work a part time job in handeling images he recieves, so he can put them on the message boards?
No.
He is not a hosting service either.
MEANING
IF YOU WANT TO PUT A FILE SOMEWHERE, you have to put it in a place that ACCEPTS IT..

THIS IS A "place" - when you read this very message you are connected to FALLOUT.GAMESTATS.COM which connects you many times to A HOSTING SERVICE (which may be located somewhere else than on gamestats), in which various data, images, and files are located.

So, you don't "put it somewhere else so it shows up here"
YOU PUT IT IN A PLACE THAT WILL HOST YOUR FILES so when someone comes in here, and the message board HTML says:

<img src="http://bla bla your hosting service.com/
your personal dir/shooroomzoorom.jpg>

YOUR BROWSER will connect you to that hosting service AS WELL, and will request THAT SPECIFIC JPG...
If it is there, and it allows foriegn requests (requests from OUTSIDE that hosting service) - you will see the image, HERE ON NMA MESSAGE BOARD!
