Yesterday my cousin was shot to death on her way to work by Muslim Militants wanting to make some kind of point.

I am sorry to hear that Commissar Lauren. I hope everything turns out good for you and your family.

The problems between the Russians and Ossetians are nothing compared to the problems between the Ossetians and the Ingushetians, or the Ingushetian and the Chechens, or Russia and Chechnya... The nature of the entire area is so volatile and the regularity of violence and bloodshed so mundane, I'm constantly amazed that almost nothing is reported in the news about it. The combination of ethnic, religious and national conflict has created a renewable source of hate, a hate that is not likely to burn itself out. Thank you for your thoughts, although I do not forsee an end to the bloodshed in my lifetime.

The more I read threads like these, I realise two things:
One, I know absolutely jack shit about what is happening in the world.
Two, I really should be a lot more thankful that I live in a country where I don't have to worry about internal and external political, religious, or ethnic conflict.

I can't even begin to wonder how I would feel if a family member was killed to make a point. It makes me feel like a total dick, because I spend so much time bitching about comparitively trivial matters like "my front left car speaker stopped working" or "I, like, totally hate exams sooooooo much, like".

So yeah, for what it's worth, I'm sorry to hear what happened.

I am not a pacifist, I can't say no war was ever justified, but I am agains violence because it brings pain, just a lot of pain. I am hardly the right person to speak of how conflicts and differences should be resolved, if I knew how I would waste no time and tell the world how to do it.

Still, when people dies like this, anywhere in the world, it even makes ME want to get into an MI-24 Hind and begin to throw fire into the terrorists.

If you ask me, avoid violence, it is painful, and unless you like pain you should have nothing to do with it.

I also understand that there are greater forces that lead us to into violence and make us forget about the pain we make to others, but I still can't find a justification for this, therefor I must assume this kind of violence is not justified, at least not for me, in any way.

I don't know of how much help it can be, particulary coming from a guy who you had probably read no more than a couple of his posts in this forum, but I want you to know that I am, as others here also posted, sorry to hear about your loss.

I don't know what effect my post will have, but I hope is not a bad one. Feel free to completely ignore it if you want to.

The article is disturbing, but they will probably screw it up with their lack of organisation. It is similar to what America is doing, but I wonder if it will be government subsidised to a greater extent?.

Sorry to hear about your cousin Lauren.

Terrorists?

Sorry to hear about your cousin, Commissar Lauren. :(

NOW do you believe me when I say Humanity's made no progress whatsoever?

The problem with humanity is lack of empathy. Most of the western world, including myself, has no idea what it's truly like to live in a situation like that. Even the troops in Iraq are safe in the knowledge that their family members are safe at home while they are fighting.

My condolences Commissar Lauren

in my country young men of 16 - 25 yrs old are conscripted to the army for "National Service". U will do it whether u like it or not. :x Although most guys hate the crap they did in there, about 90% are willing to die fighting if needed.

not real patriotism mind you. It has being so drilled into their heads during their 2 - 3 years in the barracks so the grunts naturally feel its their duty not having some great love for the country.

EDIT: Hurray for spellchecker :D
