Russian Elections

President elections will start in 2018. Check your facts and return later.

That's two separate things. Parliamentary elections determinates who will get into parlament pushing their agenda.
Oh in that case... hmm... I kind of want the Nationalist Bolsheviks (or whatever the fuck their name is) but they've been banned and not considered as a proper party have they not? For the lulz of course.

There's two 'communist' parties still functioning. One of them is kinda part of the goverment since they get the second most votes and to this date sitting in parlament.

I've been hearing good things about PARNAS from unidentified Boer shitposters, but from what I've heard before, their stance on Crimea is somewhat weird (return it to Ukraine), especially for a seemingly nationalist party.

"The city state of Novgorod had developed procedures of governance that held a large measure of democratic participation far in advance of the rest of Europe. From the mouth of a Kremlin official in Novgorod, before Moscow came and took over, the people of Novgorod could decide for themselves how Novgorod was run, and who ran it. The people had the power to elect city officials and they even had the power to elect and fire the prince."

Wow. That is really legitimately fascinating. Cheers.

IWho is up against Putin and exactly how little of a chance do they stand?
Nobody, Putin took care of it. His most vocal and powerful opponents, such as Mikhail Khodorovsky who dared to run oil business with China without approval from Kremlin and also dared to fund the opposition parties, have been imprisoned. Khodorovsky is serving in Penal Colony no.10 in Siberia right now. Another powerful persons who happened to be friends with Putin, such as Putin's former KGB buddy and trustworthy silovik Sergey Ivanov, recent chief of staff in Kremlin, have been send to retirement, being replaced by younger and obedient apparatchiks.

Thanks, I stand corrected. This slipped under my radar, but Khodorovsky is apparently free after decade in Siberian penal colony. Obviously he can't endanger Putin's candidature from Sweden anymore, and I doubt he'd return to Russia anytime soon. He's also serving as a good example for other Russian oligarchs, who've received the message - support Kremlin, or pack up your things and get a free ticket to comfy gulag!

edit: He's living in Switzerland according to The Guardian actually.
