Beating Herve Caen to the punch (yes, we still haven't heard any news from his Fallout MMO project), the Russkies have released a video clip of their Fallout Online project, which shows how combat and dialogue is handled. Combat seems to go along with continuous turnbased-lines of Tactics, an interesting method. Some screens (from the project, not from the clip):

Thanks dimzon.

Maybe so, but thats the reason I like the idea of rocket launchers... and dynamite.

It will be interesting to see what they do with this, I think that fallout online *could* be a good thing IF DONE PROPERLY. FOOL couldn't survive in a WoW like environment. Maybe something similar to the Guildwars set up but the truth is no one really knows until it comes out. And if it ever did, I don't think there isn't one of us would wouldn't try the trial version, if only to see how bad they fucked it up.

Not a bad 2nd post...

That looks kinda scary. I am not very convinced. Do we need a Fallout MMORPG? Some post-apocalyptic online RPG might be cool, but I think that this first screenshot breaks the Fallout feel pretty good.

Looks interesting but the combat looks really really badCan we expect the dev's posts here?

I think the best way for FOOL to be presented would be Diablo 2 ... esque. Only without the glaring problems of the Diablo 2 community. But it would probably be best done as simply part of Fallout 3 instead of seperate game.

Looks like they have done a pretty good job with the engine. Congrats to that. A world like that would still feel empty though, without the right elements. Its not all about the guns and badass lines.

cheeky russians :)

imho the only way to go is doing something like EVE .. much more harsh and much more player driven ... not the 3d diablo that WoW is ...

Does anybody know anything about the engine they use? Or how they modified and existing engine (I suspect FOT engine)?

The whole post apoc theme to me, is that there isn't that many people. Atleast not in 1 city. I actually think that The Postman had a "perfect" amount of people in it.

Well I don't like the idea of Fallout being a MASSIVE-multi-whatever either. However, I wish them luck, because I would like to see this turning into Fallout Co-op (Could it be possible to use their mmo engine to modify FO?).. Going through the game with a mate or two is really what I hope for after playing fallout zillions of time.

EDIT:

Indeed. I share you thoughts on this mate.

I must agree.

I'd also like to know how they get around the time issue when you travel on the world map. Time goes much faster there. What happens to the people who stay in towns, or those in random encounters, if there are any, when others are worldmap travelling. It would completely screw-up the time system, correct.

maybe the time isn't going faster on the world map, heh? that would be like an fallout-Ogame hybrid xD

That would make no sence at all. You would have to walk for hours, literally, just to get to most towns.

If everyone had access to a car it would maybe help, but where the hell would you park them all if that many people decided to got to one place. (I would use a question mark, but for some reason I get this instead-É).

It just would not be Fallout-Period,Nuff said.

I would assume they took Gordian's method with the knot to it; remove the map, make it all one continuous area (probably a big city)
