Russian stance on terror

MOSCOW (AFP) - Russia is prepared to make pre-emptive strikes on "terrorist bases" anywhere in the world, the Interfax news agency cited the country's chief of staff as saying.

"With regard to preventive strikes on terrorist bases, we will take any action to eliminate terrorist bases in any region of the world. But this does not mean we will carry out nuclear strikes," General Yuri Baluyevsky said Wednesday.

Baluyevsky added that Russia's choice of action "will be determined by the concrete situation where ever it may be in the world.

"Military action is the last resort in the fight agaisnt terrorism."

Putin's comments where bad enough, but he's going to blame this on Khaketi as it's been alot more tolerant towards it's Muslim minorities and has helped Chechen refugees.....holy shit dude.......talk about a REAL war for oil.

Well, too bad Russia really isn't in it for the oil so that gets crossed out. Considering the fact that they are the 2nd largest exporter of it I doubt that they need anymore.

What are you talking about? Georgia is over one of the most active oil lanes in history. Ever seen that one Bond movie with Sophie Marceau?

You doubt they need more oil? What are you, dumb :D Greed, son, greed . . There is always a need for more, that´s the human nature . . and btw, you Might have heard of oil running low . . ;) It´s a race that might end up in an ugly fashion.

Lol, beat me to it. Maybe, now that China is moving troops into the western hemisphere, China will invade Alaska and the U.S. will annex Canada as a result.

The Caspian sea has the worlds largest reserves of not yet explored oil and natural gas. It has been a source of conflict between Russia and Iran, and the main cause of friction between the USA and Russia, with the US now having military bases all over the region. One of the main goals of Al-Qaeda is to control all of the Caucasus region and most of the Caspian Sea routes in order to control the pipelines and ship routes of those reserves. It`s the north side of their Califate, wich would control everything from Tchetchnia to Nigeria, putting all the oil in the hands of islamic fundamentalists, it`s their utopia.

it`s one of the most dangerous places in the world, and as one NATO general once said, one of the two places that could start WWIII in a rush.

I remember reading somewhere the Chechen insurgents were trying to start an all-out war in the Caucasus (sic) region with the school kidnapping.

So let's think about this- both the US and the Russians have a policy of preemptive strikes against terrorists. Certainly the Chinese will not be outdone. I seriously doubt the French would back down either.

The notion of major powers launching preemptive strikes against terrorist organizations within sovereign states, when those sovereign states are oil exporters, is disturbing. Could be a preemptive land grab to secure strategic resources?

The new great game gets more complicated. Might be a good time that the major powers started setting asside some differences and work together least we trip over each other while in the business of preemption.

Sounds like the Russians can use the terrorists as an excuse to get want they want...though they have enough oil for now...the question is who will run out and make a grab for the Caspian Sea area? The Arab's whose oil will run out eventually, the American's who may try to get oil from a non-middle-eastern source, or the Russian's who dont want either to get it?

Time's are either those of war or those in preparation of war...

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Lesson: if you are not the major country in the world yet decide to emulate that country's policy, you are looked at with disregard. Weeeee

Its always better to save your own supply for later use, and meanwhile use someone else’s supply while you can.
US have plenty of oil themselves in alaska and wherever, but why should they use their own supply if they can buy (or invade and fore the new puppet regime to give you the contracts) it from some other corrupt 3ed world country.

Russia will want to maintain their oil for strategic needs, since most of the Russian economy is now based on oil export and the amount of oil they are exporting is huge, you can see that it wont last for long.
