euhm, without the story you just have a bunch of repeatable quests that don't actually matter much?
 
Unless they tweak the A-life to make the other Stalkers more competitive. Anyway at least they're still working on the game and it's a free patch. Personally I enjoyed the game most before I got deep into the story when it all got a bit too mental for me.
 
Well, they should really tweak something, then. When I finished the game, my ranking was several times higher than the second ranked stalker, without much trying. If the whole purpose of the game becomes rank-climbing, I don't see much reason to replay it.
 
Before I got to the brain scorcher I was well over double the rank of the second placed victim. Seemed like every time I passed through the Duty checkpoint to the Garbage I'd get a quest to defend the stalker encampment. A dozen bandits a time soon adds up.
 
I just hope that they fix that bug that made the first duty mission a bitch to finish, if they do, i will finally finish the game.
 
By the way, you can read more about the update here. This big update will be released as patch 1.1, and in the meantime they will continue to release smaller patches. Next is 1.0004, which has the change-log in the aforementioned link.

Also: People stopped caring about STALKER. We've already beat it already and squeegied the RPGness out of it. It's done. Microwave just went 'ding', food is cooked, food is eaten. Why bother adding seasoning on leftovers?
