Saliva Drug Testing

I've recieved word that I'm going to be under random Saliva Drug Testing this summer. I've heard about blood and urine drug testing, but I've never heard of this kind before. I'm hoping that you guys will be able to enlighten me.

Is this more/less accurate than the other tests?
Is it faster and easier to do?
What kind of drugs can it check for?
What are some cool factoids about it?

Here's all I know:

It can detect marijuana, cocaine, opiates (i.e. opium, heroin, morphine), methamphetamines (also known as Ice, Meth, Crystal, one of the most dangerous and addictive drugs out there) within 36 hours of taking said drugs.

It's one of the easiest test on the market and very popular at that. Saliva testings are probably the most non-invasive and low-cost tests around, BUT also one of the easiest to cheat on. I have no idea how long it takes

If you need to (you prolly don't, I hope) you can get a simple spray which prevents any results being shown on the test

I have no idea how accurate it is.
 
wrong, Kharn. the easiest, cheapest and least invasive drug test is the one commonly used by Croatian Police. it involves beating a suspicious individual with a battering ram until he admits using drugs, then beating him some more just for kicks. :P the test is surprisingly efficient, but only applicable in environments such as parties, concerts and seedy bars, and only during the night, because elsewhere, and during the day, such slightly excessive use of force is likely to be perceived as (oh Lord, no!) unnecessary violence and (dear God!) police oppression. piece of friendly advice: if you are ever in Croatia, and you decide to throw a big party and invite the whole neighbourhood...don't. :lol:
 
Thanks to Kharn for the info and Ratty for the scenario I never want to be in.

I had this testing last summer, but I didn't know anything about it. I figured that it would have a lower sensitivity to drugs than other forms of testing, but it never hurts to ask! I'm sure I wont have to worry about having drugs in my system by the time they start testing this summer, but its allways good to know "just in case"...

Kharn, where can I get some more information about this subject? Or at least where did you get yours?
 
I got most of my knowledge out of my Biology text-bookie :D (Well, two books back, but y'know, I'm doing revisions).

Heh, it's sure accurate about GHB. That's pretty popular here, now. (though, for clarity, I don't do any harddrugs, just some mirahuana, and that usually not more than once a month). But about GHB;

Last summer, it was popular and the beaches. I can remember this news coverage. They showed this girl that had taken GHB and alcohol (pretty big nono), she was trashing about and flailing as they dragged her into the ambulance. As I told someone before; she looked like something inside of her was trying to claw its way out.

Each test for a different drug is separate. Generally drug testing is only done for one of the more popular drugs; cocaine or marijuana. Abstain if possible for several weeks to a month beforehand. I have taken cocktails to cleanse your urine before a drug test and didn't have a problem. I'm sure there are similar products for saliva. If they do testing on hair then you are screwed unless you decide to shave your head at the last minute. I'd say don't worry and live your life as you choose. Any company that does drug testing probably isn't worth working for. It usually is a symptom of other workplace controls that are extremely difficult to work under. IMO, if a person can do his/her job in a capable and effective way it is nobody's business what they do on their own time away from work. As long as you aren't getting high at or before work it shouldn't make a difference.
 
However he is going to be in charge of kids. (dissable ones at that)
As a parent, i would like them to make sure that the monitors are not getting high, while taking care of my kids.

Ugly John, I completely understand your concern. As far as I know, nobody who works at this camp does any kind of drugs or alcohol during the work week. We do all our partying on Friday nights because that's the only night that we get the chance to. My main concern is going out, getting drunk and smoking some herb later when I'm too out of it to know better. I wouldn't dream of smoking on the job, not to mention giving it to the kids! Actually, I just had a dream a few weeks ago that I was smoking and I passed the joint to a kid that just appeared right next to me! I woke up and felt guilty about it even though it never happened in the first place.

Here's hoping that I'm never too drunk to make foolish mistakes. And in case I do, we drink like a gallon of water a day so I'm sure that anything we have in our systems gets washed out right away anyways.

Textbooks? No. That'd make for an interesting job, though :P
When I said "my Biology textbook" I mean the book I've studied from.

Now that you mention the subject; I've worked in journalism for a short while, nothing big or fulltime though. I've been snooping around for a movie reviewer job (for tv mags, since they have less demands than the more professional film reviewers like in newspapers etc.)
