Man, not to be a jerk, but seriously, when you say that "the fans" think something, I don't believe you. And it's not that I don't believe you because I live in a vacuum, it's that I don't believe you because I actually read the forums at NMA and DAC.
Can "the fans" stop acting like they have a unified opinion on every aspect of game design? You don't. Really, you do not. Saint Proverbius, Mr Carrot, On the Bounce, Kreegle, Rosh, KillZig, Belenus, Briosafreak, Odin, Ausir, TriCritical, Spazmo, and the dozens of other guys on those sites don't agree on most things. Even on things for which there seems to be a consensus, there is almost always dissention. Unless the topic is something like "Is Fallout spelled with two 'l's or one?", it is highly, highly unlikely that there will be a unified opinion.
And that is perfectly fine. But it becomes really annoying when we're accused of "ignoring the fans" because something is done contrary to the wishes of one hardcore fan. If one person tells me to turn left and the other person tells me to turn right, is it reasonable for one of those two to feel ignored when I actually decide which way to turn?
So can we agree on something? And if we do or not, is that good? What is a Fallout game for the regular fans like us? And can we agree about a few ideas to Fallout3?
