The Washington state headquarters for the president's re-election campaign was broken into last night, and police are investigating the theft of three computers from the Bellevue office.
Missing are the computers used by the campaign's executive director, the head of the get-out-the-vote effort and one that had been set for delivery to the campaign's Southwest Washington field director, said Jon Seaton, executive director of the state's George W. Bush campaign.

Seaton said data on the computers was backed up and available elsewhere. But, he said, the loss creates a potential security breach about the campaign's so-called 72-hour plan, the Bush get-out-the-vote effort.

"Obviously there's some stuff there we wouldn't want our opposition getting their hands on," Seaton said.

The campaign has spoken about the importance of the 72-hour plan in swing states across the country. Bush campaign officials say it could make the difference in a close election if Republicans are able to make sure their voters get to a polling place on election day and don't sit home as many did four years ago.

Seaton was the first one in the office this morning. He did not notice the break-in until he walked into his office and saw a rock and broken glass on the floor.

A side window of the office on 112-th Ave. N.E. had been smashed.

Seaton said this morning that the campaign staff was still checking to see if anything else had been stolen.

State Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance called it a "Watergate-style break in" and said he suspects Democrats are behind it.

"If you're just some burglar looking for computers to sell to buy drugs you take every laptop in the office maybe," he said. "But they knew exactly whose computers to get. They got the executive director's computer and the get-out-the-vote director's computer."

State Democratic Party spokeswoman Kirstin Brost said Democrats had nothing to do with the break-in.

"I feel really bad. I know how upset I'd be if it happened to us," she said.

"There was nothing for us to gain by stealing those computers. Their secret plan isn't so secret."

Vance said the break in follows reports of vandalized Bush campaign signs and what he said were telephone calls to voters alleging Bush would reinstate a military draft if re-elected.

"To me there is some scary stuff going on from liberal radicals whose Bush hatred is out of control," Vance said.

Could be the democrats, or maybe people just don't like Bush and the Republicans. Remember this is Seattle, a pretty liberal state.

My wife asked me what I wanted to do for my up-coming birthday, and I thought wrapping the Republican local hq with toilet paper would be kind of fun.

It could also be the Republicans trying to frame the Democrats. After all, from the fellow's own description: "But they knew exactly whose computers to get." It sounds like an inside job.

I don't think this is any well connected Democrat. I hate all conspiricy theroies, and even if Kerry is running a pretty bad campaign he would'nt be involved in this. Probably some manner of idiot anarchist.

Lets hope for incriminating evidence...

I do love how things like things expose that even in an era of massive conglomerates of power one individual can still have quite an effect on the world...

YOu don't think that the fact that the democrats are like 10 points ahead in Washington might be the cause of this do you? Perhaps the Republicans create a little scandal to swing the state back in their direction?

Considering the Republican tactics in this campaign, a little dirty politics is par the course.

You've gone crazy, welsh. Anyone remember the Seattle riots? There are more Anarchists and related fuckwits in Seattle then the rest of the country.

And they know for a fact Washington won't swing that way, if they really did that they'd do it in Ohio or something.

Damn, this is fucking crazy.......

*bitch-slap*

The Seattle "riots" gathered people from all over the US and Canada. It's not like it's a "hive of evil and villany" crawling with fanatic anarchist types, strapped with bombs and spreading terror amongst traditional Protestant families.

Besides, Watergate wasn't a fucking break-in. It was spying, and approved by the opposing party. Nothing to do with a burglary or an act of random sabotage.

.
It is. It's a part of the Godless Pacific Northwest. Us real Americans won't even go up there, let alone live there. It's kind of like Britan in the Roman Empire; you send people up there because they're totally fucking useless.

Well CC- let's not be too unkind.

If it weren't for Boeing or Microsoft- both with a strong presence in the Northwest, our economy would have more problems.

The state might have the longest per capital life spans, but all that rain does drive people nutty. But then, people trashed Geneva Switzerland on the same reasons and the conference wasn't even there.

But yes, it could have been some other left-wing nut. But these Republicans, there are few lows they wouldn't step into.

I'm just being CCR. Don't take me so seriously all the time. Only thing I have against the PNW is it's secularism.

But yes, it could have been some other left-wing nut. But these Republicans, there are few lows they wouldn't step into.
Exactly, few, not none. That 'few' happens to include Watergating you're own headquarters.

Face it, it was leftists.

And so you think. It could be both, it could've been some dumb-assed lefties thinking they're doing the Democrats a service (which they're not, because this'll cost Kerry votes), or it could be some smarter Republican knowing that this would cost Kerry votes. Nothing surprises me anymore....

or it could have been space monkeys that popped outta your ass..... or just retarded demoncrats who think that they were doing there party a favor, just to have a finger pointed right back at their party (the likely suspects).

Do you think it wasn't obvious? Chances are the offices had 'Get out the vote' director and 'executive director' are pretty well marked.
