Serenity

I never even saw more than one preview for this movie, and I knew it was going to be good.

Sometimes you just get that feeling about movies.

Serenity was great.....a few actors that played various roles in tv shows come out and kick some serious ass on the silver screen.

I know its a little late, but I just got to see Serenity.

Probably will not go down as a great Sci Fi epic, but after the likes of the Star Wars prequels, and other pseudo Sci Fi movies like The Island and such, I found myself utterly delighted.

I already went in heavily biased, as I am a great fan of the Firefly series and was willing to accept what would probably just be a slightly longer Episode type adventure, on the big screen.

Thats not what I got however. The story is very good, and the events that transpire are major events not just in the characters lives but to everyone around them, as opposed to just some job that doesn't really effect the universe at large. I thought the acting was pretty good, and at times goofy in an entirely intentional way. I thought the CG was good, and in fact I preffered it to the likes of the recent Star Wars movies.

It felt passionate and serious, while still maintaining its light hearted nature (Even in its darker moments, of which there was no shortage) Most of all, it was fun with some of my favorite characters. I just didn't want it to end.

I'm not a fan of Joss Whedon, just Firefly, and I am entirely satisfied with Serenity and will probably go and see it again soon.

Best Sci-Fi ever. Best. Believe me nobody can't stop the signal. Cause we are still flying. In Joss we trust.

Grave diiggggaaaa!

...Anywho, an interesting video clip in relation to this...

Serenity TWO?! ...Nathan told him so! All be it, Nathan denies it and Joss uncharacteristically is not saying one word about it.

Well since someone else already dug this thing up from the grave...

I just re-watched Serenity last night on one of my cable movie channels, which was probably about my 5th time or so through the film. Still highly engaging and entertaining.

Once I start seriously buying DVDs again, which will probably be as soon as they make up their damn minds on which format they're likely to stick with for more than half a decade or so, I'll probably pick this up.

Now what I'm wondering is, as someone who pretty much hates just about everything on TV these days, would it be at all worth my time and money to snag up the DVD release of Firefly as well?

I only really ask because I do enjoy an occasional rare gem, though I guess most of them are pretty old now. I really liked the early seasons of the X-files for example, but once it got to the point where the whole thing just became one big drawn out night-time soap opera, mainly about "zOMG! Wonder baby!", it got old pretty quickly.

I do also remember quite a bit of talk about how different and fresh this Firefly show was back when it was making its run too, though I didn't really pay any attention, because I've heard that a lot, and rarely is it true -or at least, very rarely does it come across in a significant enough manner that I actually enjoy the show.

So just how good is this one? Are any of the actors cross-overs from series to movie? Is the flow and feel of the series similar to what you got in the big screen version? Is there a strong, well-written story going on here, or is it another degeneration into "soap opera sci-fi" which I'm already completely fed up with?

Definitely worth the time, but maybe not buying them if you can borrow them cheaply and don't rewatch things often, as it doesn't have the long life of the film (as I doubt you will become much of a fan as you are asking us for advice after watching the film).

Firefly is excellent and far superior to any of the American shows I have seen in the last five odd years, with that spark and high quality that creates a cult following. However, you might find the series a little slower/less epic/produced, and slightly more soapy than the film (but well done), whilst the writing and stories are still great and it retains the same spirit, with the same central cast.

Even if just for the special features its worth it... Remember, "We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."

The more support that goes into it the better the chances are for the show being picked up again or a second movie.

Besides... Pick up the special edition... And you get to see the Fruity Oaty Bar commercial in its entirety!

I have the Fruity Oaty Bar commentary and segment on the Serenity Double Disc Edition. It also has an interesting QA session with Sydney fans, including some people I know. One of the fans amusingly commented on a coincidental link between Mr Universe, and Universal Studios, enabling the film, or signal to get out.

ANy other news about more Serenity? Or was that just a thought. Wonder if they would bring back Wash.

This show was recommended here, and I enjoyed, so thanks to Tannhauser for the initial rec.

Alan Tudyk that plays "Walsh" has publicly stated that he heard from Nathan that Serenity 2 is being discussed by the powers that be.

This is available on youtube

Nathan Fillion has stated thats not true as has Jewel Staite, yet... Joss has been tight lipped. Why would Alan say such a thing? I know he tends to be out of the loop compared to some of the others... Still... I wonder.

Other than that, as I've posted before.

www.intotheblack.ca is close to completing the first episode of a fan made Firefly verse TV show.

Edit: Alan said that Joss told him he would be in any sequel to Serenity... Not sure in what capasity... I just want the series back damnit!
