Still Mildly Glowing
ok, sorry about the noobness shown on my part earlier, i JUST visited this site today and you have to give me a bit to get use to the way things are setup.

anyway, i read the instructions to install on XP, BUT since it freezes when i open the CD rom drive, i go into command prompt... and this is what goes on..

copy f:\critter.dat "c:\program files\Fallout\Fallout 2\"
1 file(s) copied.

copy f:\master.dat "c:\program files\Fallout\Fallout 2\"
Data error (cyclic reduncydancy check).
0 file(s) copied.

... ummm, help? *screams with mercy*

edit: forgot specs

Windows XP Home, 2.56 Ghz Intell P4 ( i think) latest version of directX (i'm very positive of that) 513MB REM (REMM, not sure)

game = FO2

Kick your computer, it's what I tell everyone to do.

Doesn't mean it always works, but 99% of the time it does. Give it a wirl!

Mohrg

If you have a burn program try to use it to put the files on your HD. If you don`t well, you have found a new problem...

You have a damaged CD, there is no other possible explanation.

One thing you could do, is to try it with a slower medium, if you're using a DVD-ROM, try using a CD-ROM or CD-(Re)writer, that could help.

Yeah, it sounds like either a bad cd or drive. Try it on another cd drive and see if it can read it. I am assuming you have the game on the original disk?

Yea, i have the game on the original disk.. i bought it like 2 weeks after FO2 was released, so its pretty old and beat up... i'm a poor lazy sob so i dont want to buy it again.

I only have a CD-R on my comp, but i'll try burning an image of it at like 2x ... thanks a lot for the help

I got the exact same error and i have two Fo2 discs, there both from the box set with both Fallout and Fallout2. why god, WHHYYYYY?!!??

Come on kid, you can get Fallout 1 and 2 quite cheap these days and they're worth it.. I believe I now have 5 copies of both games..

If you guys dig a bit on this forum you`ll find there are a lot of problems when one has a cd drive and a cd-rw or cd-r drive. Normally instaling or copying stuff from the other drive works, exactly like i did while installing both games recently through my dual case edition.

So i`m wondering if the problem is one of defective cds or the same buffer troubles i got.

Now i have to buy a new cd drive because the cd-rw i have in this computer will not read discs properly, i had the same read-error with installing Fallout tactics that i had with Fo2 and that was that the disc drive wouldent read properly!

Send me some. They're pretty tough to get here and my CD-RW drive actually burned some holes in my old discs (seriously, you should see them, it's horrible)

I dont know where i can get a new box set i looked arould, and nobody has it, NOT EVEN WALMART! they may be cheap but i cant get any other copies.

It could be that your cd drive is out of alignment. If it is an expensive drive, take it to the computer shop otherwise buy a new one for $20.
