Setting games circa Fallout 2

I'm thinking Mexico city, the way Raoul talked about it there's a lot of story to be had there.
Especially the Poseidon copy Petro-Chica company. Possibly a subtle attempt by Poseidon to force influence onto the Mexican government, which could make for an interesting setting where an American COMPANY has more power in the country then the American government, which would be slightly different to the usual government style subtle control.

I'd also like to see games set in other parts of North America. I'd like to see Canadians and Quebecois fighting against the descendants of American occupying forces. Toronto was mentioned in The Pitt, that leaves it wide open. I'd like to see what happened in Canada and whats going on there now.

Mexico is better in my opinion due to having a more unique culture, which leads to a much wider array of factions and stories.

To each there own. My family is Mexican and California, so Mexico seems less foreign to me.

Fair enough. I love going to Europe in winter, and so it's a lot like Canada.

Speaking of which, did the US do anything to Mexico like they did Canada in the Fallout timeline? I know they probably didn't annex it, but were there tensions of any sort?

According to the Bible, Mexico apparently had a strong relationship with America until the U.S. started putting pressure on them over economics which resulted in the U.S. invading Mexico so they could continue obtaining it's oil. The Bible doesn't say Mexico was fully annexed like Canada was though.

Wouldn't surprise me if Mexico wasn't annexed but put under some sort of US backed puppet state. Americans have never really liked Mexicans and in the conservative wet dream of America, we wouldn't annex them for anything, just rule over them. Hell, the reason why the US didn't take all of Mexico during the Mexican-American War was they didn't want to deal with a large Spanish speaking Catholic population. It was too different for them to want to deal with. I'd imagine that that prejudice stayed in Fallout universe America, but more pronounced due to aforementioned conservatism.

They probably just took control of key economic and military points, leaving the rest of the country to the dogs.

Yeah, I'd say American puppet state, with direct American control of things like key ports and airfields. If they weren't very closely-aligned with America there would have been no reason for the Chinese to nuke them.

So Mexico itself would be an anarchist state while important areas would be under US control. Hence Petro-Chica could be a subsidiary of Poseidon in Mexico.

It wouldn't necessarily be anarchist, it could be all manner of things. In fact, I'd say it would be more authoritarian and right-wing, to crack down on suspected communist sympathisers. I doubt the paranoid US would want anarchy right on their doorstep for the Chinese to exploit. Of course, corporate influence over fascist states is extremely common, so Petro Chico could be a major player in the government.

I'd expect an American backed puppet state across all of Mexico. Americans are prejudiced towards Mexicans. I'd imagine that be worse in the Fallout world because of the conservative overtones of the Pre War world. I wouldn't rule out military advisers or a few military bases, but a full scale occupation of any part of Mexico would be surprising to me. Hell, my own family faced obstacles in California and this state used to be Mexico, we still face some obstacles to this day because of our heritage. There are even calls to ban the teaching of the history of Spanish California because "its too brutal and racist" which is code for not Anglo.

Canada was destroyed by a clumsy Lone Wanderer that managed to fire the death ray at it from Mothership Zeta .

Now without joking, I always wanted to see more of the world in the Fallout universe, but I also know that a major part of Fallout being Fallout is the americana and the cold war feeling. Canada would definitely work since the USA annexed it so I bet it would still be valid for the americana style and would be a good opportunity to develop new factions and stories :look:.

What I meant is that America would keep and take control of key areas under a puppet state while the poorer areas can go hang.
