Sierra army base

Wild Thing

First time out of the vault
I was there once, gained acces, tried to get to the other levels (couldnt pick the lock on the door to the other elevator, not even with lockpicks..kept jamming the lock), gave it up, went back and told the one who gave me the job....

I tried to go back after a while, and now the turrets are online (which they wasn`t the other time)...

1: how do i get access to other levels?? (btw, my lockpick level was ABOVE 90)

2: there is no way peaceful way to get into the sierra army base now,is there??

2:Uuhh, no. Btw, any idea why the turrets weren't on-line the first time? They usually are on-line, unless you turn off the power(I think) but you'd have to get past them for that.

{SPOILER}

1:Let's see, there is the eye of corporal dixon in the right corner of the first level, I think, which you can use on the retinal scanner on the elevator in the middle, then on the second(or third level) you can find another eye(of the general) to get everywhere with just that elevator. Oh, you do still know how to disable the force fields, right?(In case you don't, think hard, think Fallout 1 Military Base............................think repair....).
And the elevators on the left are just incredibly hard. YOu need luck, high lockpick skill(and preferably a very good lockpick), to get in, and out after that.

1. Use the eye from the locker on level 1 on the retinal scanner. It will allow you to enter deeper. Then find another eye. Use it again on the scanner to penetrate the rest of the base.

2. The outside turrets are always active from what I know. Don't blow the forcefields inside, use your eye on the scanner, fail to disable the forcefield or enter the incorrect password on the first level. Those things turn on the alarm.

thats strange then...I just walked in there, found the howitzer "bullet" and the howitzer (it was kinda funny!), turned the power to 50% (for some reason it wouldnt go lower), fired the howitzer and entered... Not much more to it.

Oh i just rememberd: The three frontal turrets (the ones by the gates) + the one by the powergenerators where offline while the two by the doors were active (but only if i walked in their radoius, which seemed to be quite small).

Strange, every time i've done the Sierra depot all turrets were along the entrance were online. Made it some what difficult to get in the damn place when your only at a small level and wearing crappy armour. I'll never try that again....soo messy!

Wonder why they were offline...

if you dont want to fight the turrets you can just press the number 2 on the number pad on the right of your keyboard, this little trick will take you to area 2, it also works in all the other towns :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:d

What the crap?

Eh, no idea.

Anyway, yeah, you need the base commander's (?) eyeball XD use it on the retina, as said.

The lowest level you can go is the one with the Organ Extractor and the Virus Storage System.

By the way, if FEV was developed by the government *after* the war, then how come the Sierra Army Depot contains an FEV sample? The place is pre-war, right? o-O

FEV developed after the war? Huh?

I believe it was originally a pre-war project to create "the ultimate warrior"...

not crap, try it, start a new game and when you are at the temple press number 3 on the number pad, and you will be taken to area number 3

damn! that "trick" DID work...I turned off num lock and pressed on the 2 key on the regular numbers!

Damn, spoil it for me: HOw do i disable the force fields (it was a long time ago i played fallout 1)??

Ehh, didn`t work.. It just said "you were shocked by the weakend force field" and i kept going, but nothing happend...And Vic couldn`t do it either.
Solved that by just going right through the force field (little damage = ok)....

But here`s the next problem: I`m trying to retrive the cybernetic brain (called something like that), but i keep failing... Probably due to my low sience skill... Is there a smart NPC that can help?? Or is there a way to do it WITH low knowledge?

(BTW. Is there a way to rescue the soldier that runs once he`s been revived??)

You need to repair the things NEXT to the forcefield, not the forcefields themselves.

As for the brain, you need about 120 science, and I'm not sure you can get someone else to do it for you, if anyone, perhaps Myron could do it, otherwise, I don't know.

And you can do it with low knowledge, but you'd probably get some kind of chimp brain or something like that.

And no, the soldier can't be rescued(For as far as I know).

INCOMING NOOB QUESTION!

How do you inniate thate quest? I never fuigered out how to get to the depot.

PS: Is the 44 magnum an extremely good pistol that can take down enclave goons or is it just over hyped?

You get that quest from the Wright family in New Reno.

I think they simply want you to enter the Depot and report back to them or something like that, but some personal recon/snooping around/looting never hurts, does it? :P

Thanks. COuld you answer my PS question, and this new question.

Where the hell are the Wright family?

The .44 is a good handgun, but it doesn't do you any good later in the game. The gauss gun is much better.

The Wrights are in the East part of New Reno.

I think it was actually designed to increase soldiers' resistance to Chinese biological weapons.

That is happening because you turned the power to 50%. If you let power at 100% you have yellow forcefields that cannot be surpassed but can be deactivated with the repair skill, even Vic alone can do that. If you lower to 50% you got red forcefields that you can pass at the cost of some damage, but that cannot be be lowered with skills. It's your call, I prefer the yellow ones.

To be able to retrieve the best brain you need 121% science. You can use the big books of science to reach 91%. What I usually do after that is to use drugs to lower my int for a while and to be able to read more books. Example: After reaching 91% science with the books and with natural int 8, I use two mentats and rest until I got the drawbacks, then I use a Pshyco to lower my int to 1. Then I'm able to read like 15 aditional big books. I rest again until all the drawbaks are gone and my science skill goes to 119% without spending a single point at it. It can be done for the repair and first aid skills too, but those really don't need to be so high.

Nope...
