Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Ok, I posted the IC thread, no need to post any characters here, you can begin a description of your character and his bio as the game progresses, the first post is a good place for that, you can even do it while introducing your character to the other characters in the mess hall.

The first part (PROLOGUE) has as objective to introduce the characters and have the characters know each other. This way the characters will have some time to develop some sort of relation (be it positive, negative or indifferent) among themselves before they arrive to the colony where the main story takes place.

So far what you need to know about the background is this: Humanity is in the middle of an interstellar war, in this context the group of characters are being sent on a spaceship to a isolated research colony to perform different activities, mainly guard duty, your character has just been drafted or transferred to a security detail on a far away planet. None of the characters has any knowledge as to what the research taking place in the colony is about.

You can post here any questions and a general description of what you would like your character to be like in the given context, but the main character development and description will take place on the IC.

*WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:

Rather than explaining bios here, players are encouraged to describe their characters in the IC, some of those descriptions will be done by dialog, if you want to know more about other players or NPC's, ask them questions, all new discovered info will be updated in the Factbook thread.

Using this system will result in the information gathering being a part of the game. Some persuasion skills will come handy.

Feel free to notice things about the characters and places, and write them in the IC, as a player you are writing the story too.

To keep things organized I will update all info you need for the game (characters, locations, items) in the "Factbook" thread. The trhead will be locked, but you can check out the info there. Any questions you have please post them here.

If at any time during the game you think you are stuck as on how to fallow, please post here, I will try to help as much as I can. This is a rather free style of playing so, thing may get confusing sometimes, but don't give up!

Hope we can all have a lot of fun playing.

OK, this week is going to be difficult foe me to update and give more info on the game and the story.

As game master I will be presenting the player with situations and the player will have to resolve them in narrative. There will be fer times when rolls will be made, and these will only be requested by me.

You have to try to describe your character in the IC as best as you can, making use of flashbacks, dreams, or describing what your character thinks. I will to know what your character background is, what sort of things he is good at. As a guard detail everyone will have at least basic military training, any other specializations will be up to the player.

I will not present you with a list of characters to choose from and a list of stats for each, but rather give your character new stats as the game progresses and we find more about him/her, this way the player will have much more decision on how his character is going to be and at the same time will not be able to predict how his character stats are going to change.

Basically, play this as a free form RPG and let ME worry about any numbers, I'll let you know if you have to roll anything at all.

I will also communicate new developments and situations about your characters via PM, these will not be seen by other players.

So, this said, I guess I can open the IC thread now, start writing the story in a free way and using common sense, if you have any questions contact me or ask here in the OC thread. This being a free form RPG gives the player a lot of freedom, but it also means you have to be more careful on how you develop the story and if will require more writing effort by the players.

So far all characters are just waking up from stasis, so get out of the infirmary and head to the mess hall and try to interact with the other PC and NPC's.

Still waiting for more players to join, but this forum is kind of dormant, we'll see how it goes.

My former Call of Cthulhu character, for a game that I was to play with welsh and others but never took off. He was a latent psychic, though beyond strange dreams, he didn't know it.

“I always wanted to see space, you know. Having spent the majority of my life piloting the back of a hydro-machine on one of the fringe worlds, the concept of dancing out amidst the stars was one that had a peculiar fascination for me. I used to watch the ships come in from time to time; mostly cargo deliveries, but sometimes you got a bigger ship than a freighter and hell, all of them were beautiful to me. They could fly, something that apparently was not to be the case for me. Yeah, I was the son of agro-techs and so my glorious dreams of plying the space-lanes was not all that likely, given the lack of incentive. Every hand is needed in the colonies, and you pitch in alongside all the rest. Boring life you know, but at least you could pump in music to the headset of the suit you wore and that kind of killed the time on hand. Agro-plots are pretty large, y’know: not many people to really talk with your age, so I grew up among adults pretty early on. Got me into trouble sometimes too, what with a ‘smart mouth’ and all.

Still, I got out of there quickly enough. Yeah it was all that great driving one of the vehicles to town from time to time and getting a cut of the proceeds. It gave me some time off; it gave me some time to figure out what I wanted to do than be a dirtbunny out in the boonies. Basically, it gave me the chance to eventually file away for university, once the mandatory training hours were done at the crèche school. Correspondence vid-courses can be hard when you work a long day, but hell, I got by. I always do you know, and eventually I managed to get off planet. I didn’t want to be a bloody marine, but I figured that the ‘Forces’ could at least get me somewhere before I switched in for a Government job. Maybe I could do that a few years and then get transferred to something better. Piloting maybe…I’m pretty good in the sims and all. Another life wasted on vid games and virtual reality, but I could say it was prime training for wanting to be an officer of the law.

Yeah, I believe in peace and security and all that, but it’s a means, man. It’s a means to get somewhere, to play the system till you get something you want out of life. So I did a stint with the marines, not too bad, and I avoided the worst of the inevitable conflicts. Soon as I could I switched over to ColSec because, to be honest, I wanted to. I wanted to do something a bit more for people besides shoot at them, y’know? At least I could still wield a gun and be honest with myself, think for myself, walk the streets without getting more than resentful glares from folks. Keeping the law is a pretty dirty business but still, it’s hands-on and it’s challenging and that’s what I like.

So yeah, I did my time in patrol before getting kicked up to Investigations. Still new at that, but patrolling wasn’t so bad: I was a pretty good shot and just got lucky with a few of the bigger cases I guess. Nothing too fancy, just the right backup at the right time. Someone must have been watching out for me, eh? I will[/b] be a pilot, a real one someday. Helping people out now is great and all, but eventually I want to staff one of the explorer positions, cast off and find something new. You have to be from the choice. I guess that is what makes me sit here, pulling in the *big* bucks as a civil Government for that, of course, and the marines well…I like to think for myself, make the right choices on my own thanks. I guess that is why I am here, making the big bucks as a civil servant. One day I’ll move on but for now I like what I have got, don’t want to lose it. Take it one day at a time, and then eventually make your move. Patience is key and all…brains and heart and a dash of luck, that’s what’s needed to do this kind of job. A healthy dose of cynicism too, but that will come a few years time. Right now I just want to get transferred out to space again, see the universe. Murder and slavery and race riots are great an’ all, but it’s space that has always pulled at me. I just…I just need to figure a way out there, someday.”

Tall, relaxed and yet intense…those are three words to describe Leon when he first catches your eye. He has a veritable aura about him that speaks to easy-going command, as if nothing really got the best of him in the end. Despite his persona, he seems pretty quiet on his off-time; this counteracts what people see of the man on duty who can be both witty and bitingly sarcastic all at once. Still, he is pretty loyal to his friends even if he would rather be doing something else half the time. On the job though, he is focused, intelligent, and on-ball, a few of the assets that have kept him alive for so long. If he has any flaws, they tend to relate more to being a bit too much of a dreamer. He has these fantastic visions of where he wants to be, what he plans to do, where he will go. He likes his job and he enjoys helping people out, but his true love tends to be for the stars and if he has any time off, it usually ends up playing the pilot sims or cadging the off-duty pilots. As a naturally curious sort, like an overgrown puppy he can stick his nose into the wrong sorts of business, even for an Investigations detective…

You might as well sign me up for this, I do love a good rp, I'm also quit the grave digger it seams.

Read the story in the IC and the first post in this thread and when you are ready post your character here.

I'll let you know if this takes off after all.

Mr.Jones got the name No-Go due to his bullheadedness, he doesn't do what he doesn't see right.

Sure, this game has been dormant waiting for players, but I think we can start up in a day or two. Post a character once you've red the basics.

It is a free form RPG, you are writing the story along with the other players.

John B: I'll open the IC thread now, feel free to start writing. I'll update the "Info Terminal".

Name: David White
Rank: Lance Corporal
Sex:Male
Branch:CMC
Skin:Caucasian
Weight:175 pounds
Height: 5'9
Age:24
Bio: Born the son of an Officer and a Nurse, David lived his life out on a small colony. Following his fathers wishes, he enrolled in the marines, though not an officer as his old man wanted.

5 years into his service and after a field promotion, David is now prepared to relax on whatever colony they send him to.

Good, I'll update the terminal. The IC is open now, read the previous posts and see how you want to continue with the story from your character's perspective.

You just waken from stasis, I suggest your character heads down to the mess hall to meet the other characters.

Also: Post a picture or a link to a picture for the mug shot (doesn't have to be an actual person but try to use a realistic not too cartoonish one).

I you don't want to send one I'll pick one for you guys :)

UPDATE NOTICE

To keep things organized I will update all info you need for the game (characters, locations, items) in the "Factbook" thread. The trhead will be locked, but you can check out the info there. Any questions you have please post them here.

Hope we can all have a lot of fun playing.

Ok, busy week. I'll be posting on the IC later tonight.

John B. I assume you won't be joining the crew in the mess hall?

Ok, I have been busier than I thought, will be posting later today, after this introduction we will be skipping to the arrival at the colony.

John B., you character has some time to recover while we get there, maybe you'll be back on your feet.

Feel free to interact a bit with each other, this chapter is basically for the characters to have some common knowledge about each other prior to the landing on the colony. Ask me or the other NPC's some questions.

Will be posting some more material in the dossier too.

In case you're wondering why no-go didn't feel it it's because the burning was so sever that the nerves in his face are no longer functioning at all, but thanks to the wonders of technology they were able to save him, and he is still capable of proper speech, he just looks horribly burnt.

Ok, busy week, but we did good, if we do at least a couple of post from each per week is not bad, but the more the better. Weekends are going to be slow for me because I spend them out of the house mostly.

Next week we move forward a few months in the storyline and arrive to the planet, and then is where the real action begins, you will have to make some life and death choices  I'll try to star with that part during this weekend.

Cheers and keep it up, we're getting there.

Ok, been a long weekend and been out of the house for most of it, but I'm back now.

I posted on the IC, we will be wrapping up with the first chapter shortly, the second chapter (hopefully) will be taking place on the surface.
