Singular New Vegas screenshot

As I said in the other thread, definitely an improvement over the FO3 super mutants, which probably means that the ones identical to FO3 ones in one of the previous screenies were likely a placeholder.

I still have my doubts. They could add the Fallout 3 ones as well, for more variety between the super mutants.

It's not impossible, but it seems unlike Bethesda to use placeholders in any official PR. They tend to be more careful than that. It's possible the design's been tweaked but I think they're beyond that stage of the production cycle.

What Lexx said seems more likely.

Still looks pretty much like the Fallout 3 super mutants to me.

It's the same basic skeleton, but the skin texture and colour are pretty different.

I still see the ugly ass armor of the original FO3...

Yes, but the skin texture has been tweaked to look more like the FO1/2 ones.

Well, I think it's possible that given their tight schedule they saved the "making super mutants look more like in the originals" part for later if they have time, and went with FO3 ones originally, plus a greyish texture for the nightkin. So it wouldn't technically have been a placeholder since that was the current look of super mutants at that time. Still, it's possible that the FO3 ones are in the game too, I guess we'll see. As for giving them more variety, it looks like they're combining various parts of the regular/master/brute mutant armor.

New Vegas : When everything that was ugly before suddenly becomes "great" because MCA and Sawyer are involved

*shrugs* Yes. Better is better. It's still pretty bad, and I am not looking forward to seeing this game in motion, but it's still better.

good to see you are so optimist

Well, what do you expect? In it's core, it's still Fallout 3.

Let's refresh our memories (the one on the left is vanilla):

At least the New Vegas (Obsidian) super mutant doesn't look like he just took a shower in baby shit.

And what reason, exactly, do we have to be optimistic? Screen shots and reviews that indicate that the game is pretty much the same with new pretty locations and (oh please) maybe some actualy half decent storytelling? OK so... grounds for very cautious optimism, perhaps. Maybe we'll be lucky; maybe New Vegas will be simply awesome.

But it's still the same unexciting game mechanics, the same brown world...no. No, I'm not optimistic. I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm just not at all excited by the news of a new Fallout game.

I'm definitely waiting till the old-schoolers *here* post their opinions before dropping one more cent on this now-mediocre franchise.

Why not make your own opinion?

Anyway, I suppose saturating the texture does make it look better, but it's still not the original super mutant, or west coast super mutant. I don't see why they couldn't put a super mutant more reminiscent of the Master's mutants, but they probably didn't because of development time or those days are just gone.

Because he'd have to buy it? I think he's saying he'll see how the community responds before purchasing it, which is certainly a fair enough attitude to take. I'll probably purchase it outright, but I guess I'll be doing to NMA review? No idea yet.

Yeah, that was never going to happen.

I think I get people who still don't like how New Vegas will mostly move within the limitations and with the flaws of Fallout 3. It's certainly a weak point, but I kind of accepted that for what it was the moment they announced the title and its likely release date.
