Sniper abilities?

Is there any way to pick off enemies from extremely long distances with one shot criticals?

I remember in Fallout 2 I could get some pretty long range shots going on.
 
Sniper Rifle only at extreme range aim for the head, need high Small Guns Skill.

ACTOR FADE in Display Setting FULL !!!

You see them before you get a red dot in your HUD
 
Yes, it's possible with a sniper rifle. Right clich to look through the scope.

But note that VATS absolutely blows wind at being used in sniping. Don't use it for long-rage attacks, the percentages will be ridiculously low.
