I'd hardly call the results surprising. Seeing a bunch of pixelated characters fight each other on screen, taking turns, isn't exactly most people's idea of "massive battles". While I don't see the flair in massive battles myself, I would certainly wouldn't bother to watch a FO1 massive battle because it's boring as hell, watching everyone taking turns, slowly, slowly...
