The BethBlog offers some tidbits from magazines covering Fallout 3. A few bits we missed. Gavin Carter talking to Hype about Ron Perlman:
“Ron Perlman’s involvement in Fallout games should definitely be made into a law! War never changes, after all. He reprises his role as the intro and outro narrator in Fallout 3 — it wouldn’t be the same without him.”
And Pete Hines on dialogue choices in Edge.
“‘This is the Vault bully, Butch, and his little cronies,’ says Hines pointing at a table of youths. ‘They’ll start talking about how they’re forming a gang and what they want to call their gang. He wants a sweet roll that Mrs. Palmer gave me, and there are a variety of different options here. I can wuss out and give it to him, I can ask him if we can share, I can spit on it and give it to him, I can tell him to go suck his head, I can insult his mom — so we give the player a lot of choices and how Butch will react depends upon these different choices, so if I choose one of these last two options he basically gets up to fight me.’”
Link: Around the Web catchup on BethBlog.

I hope I'm misreading here, but if there's one thing I hate in dialogues it's cosmetic choices. If insulting his mom or telling him to go suck his head have identical results, THEY'RE NOT SEPARATE DIALOGUE CHOICES. If later on I hear back from his mom because I chose the last instead of penultimate option, then it's great. Hell, I can stand cosmetic choices if they're supposed to challenge the player's faculties, but this example, unless I'm misreading it, is just the worst.

I wish RPG designers would get that through their head at some point.

If there's something I believe it's being very well done on Fallout 3, was to re-cast Ron Perlman as the Narrator...
On Fallout and Fallout 2 his intro speech was really in tone with the mood of the game. Also in Tactics, I guess...

But I hope that this isn't the best thing that Bethesda will do with Fallout 3... Because I want a really good excuse to buy a Special Edition with a Fallout lunch box.
And while I'm a big fan of the Fallout universe, having Ron Perlman as the Narrator, isn't reason enough to spend 60€ or more in one game...

True...Mass Effect was terrible as regards that ( well not ONLY that ). Not only did dialogue choices result in completely different sentences when actually pronounced by the character ( when you tried to insult somebody it resulted in you being almost nice with the person ) but most dialogue choices had identical results...

No...

Actually...most dialogue choices resulted in the FUCKING SAME SENTENCE pronounced by the character. God this game sucked balls. Can't understand why I first liked it...

Mass Effect gives a good first impression, but as time goes on and you actually dig into the choices, you realize that everything you heard was a lie.

There was only one moment when the dialogue surprised me. that being when I told the head of the Galactic UN to shut the hell up and that's what Shepard actually said.
