Space exploration games?

Mmmm I might check these games out.
I like games like these especially Escape Velovity Nova. Never really pay attention to voice acting much since my ears are shot. I just play for the enjoyment and to eat time.

Sid Meyers Pirates is also good... yeah I know it isn't space but the idea is basically the same.

I can buy Space Rangers 2 for 3.50 Euro in a German Gaming Mag... is it worth to even bother?

I mostly hate hybrids because they are executed bad...

Is it like Spellforce?

Let me put it this way:

It's my favorite game since Fallout 2.
Buy it. Wikipedia it for details.

Damn I bought it today for 3€... and I am totally adicted already! So much to explore! This is the kind of Space game I have been waiting for!

Well, I wiki'd it, and it seems like my cup of tea. I may give it a shot, but I'd like to have the disk. That means going to buy the disk at GS, if they've got it.

Crap, now you guys got me wanting to load up freelancer again... *sighs* single player mode did seem... depressingly empty for some reason though.

X2 was not that bad IMO. I enjoyed allot of its features. I agree, the story line was all to reminiscent of other space flight games and the characters suxxxored

To be honest, I haven't played a single space exploration game that truly made me feel like I was in space and totally free since Frontier: First Encounters (Elite 3).

The X games have a really cramped gameworld, same problem with Freelancer. I hate sectors.

IWAR2 is pretty good, has Elite-like space travel (though travelling between star clusters is still warp-point based), an excellent story (with wonderful cinematics), but I must admit it's pretty darn difficult. That's the reason I never got very far. Somehow I always got killed quickly when I tried to rob someone, no matter what strategy I tried.

Also, be sure to try The U r-Quan Masters, a remake of Star Control 2. A space adventure that also involves quite a bit of exploration and (albeit simplistic) mining, and some hilariously funny aliens like this guy named Fwiffo:

The only quarrel I have with it is that it has a hidden time limit. If you don't complete the game in a certain period of time, you lose :(

One note for anyone looking for space exploration games to stay away from... "The Jupiter Incident" -GAH! Worst space game ever.

Heh, I remember that. The first time I completed the game, the Kohr-Ah were a couple of days away from Earth and everybody else was dead.
Though at least you can extend the time limit if you know how by keeping the Ur-Quan busy with the Thraddash and those plant people. I vaguely remember convincing one of the Hierarchy races to intervene too.. either the Illwrath or the Mycon.. or was it both?
Fun times.

Edit: LULZ at the auto-censor! Master 356 of the Kzer-Za shall hear of this!

I-War 2 is really difficult, and that's not bad. YOu have to use good combat tehniques to defeat enemies, and that's one of the good things from the game
You can read a guide in this web site: www.i-war2.com and, if you don't want to play the story, there is some good mods, like this one:
http://www.torn-stars.com/

The travel is made across Lagrange Points, but you could travel at ILs to any place, but... you could spend 100000 years travelling :D

Pushing the 'Don't Push' button took me to a strange place I wish to forget.

Opinions differ, I do realy like it. And by the way it was suposed to be Imperium Galactica 3 but ended up as "The Jupiter Incident" minus the galaxy conquest.
As f or great games Imperium galactica 1-2, STARS!, Space Wolves 1-2, Master of Orion 2.
Oh people who liked SPace Rangers 2 try out Space Wolves 1-2 its like Privateer merged with Homeworld.

Pretty cool little game indeed, but there's not much there to keep you playing it. After a while it gets a bit repetitive. But it has potential. I'm looking forward to Noctis 5.
