spasm gun

First time out of the vault
Does anyone know whether the spasm gun is any good it has quite good range but not sure what it does.

ok thanks, does it work on everything ?
and what category does it come under? ie small guns

Yeah, I've been wondering about this too. I've played the game with an edited character (yeah I know, I'm weak) and I kept one gun of every gun I encountered during the campaign(s) but I never found the Spaz Gun.

Yep it's just another useless piece of multiplayer fluff, they did to keep the munchkins happy. Pity a game like FOT could of done with a lazer/plazma smg instead.

silent weapons

some of the weapons suck in this game.
Could have done with some good silent weaponry for a better sneaking game ie does triple damage if youre close and in sneak mode(would work like backstab does in d+d games).
The only silent weapon i've found so far is the harpoon gun.

The spear gun isn't really a silent weapon, it might not have a noisy sound effect but then sound doesn't play a part in FOT. It's mostly down to line of sight, the only time sound plays a factor is when you are aware of someone on the opposite side of a wall, or they are aware of you. I say plays a factor but really the actors hearing each other is the only possible explanation for still being able to see their graphic (albeit greyed out) through a brick wall.

Firing any gun will automatically 'discover' you if you are sneaking. Other than the silent death perk used with h2h weapons. The only attack you can make while sneaking without giving yourself away is with grenades or molotov's and then IIRC that will only work if you target the ground near your opponent rather than throwing them directly at your opponent.

That's my point unless you take the melee route which i'me led to believe from reading some of the posts on here doesn't really work well in later levels there's no weapon or perk which allows you to play a silent gun wielder without giving yourself away every time.
A good character for me would be an assasin type who could sneak in with a silenced pistol for example target a shot to an enemys head and cause major critical hit damage killing it outright without being seen or heard.
Shame theres no way of doing this.
Is it possible to do this with a melee type character in later levels and take the bigger enemys down with one hit or is it too hit and miss?

Yeah well the game is really lacking in the elementary tactical options you'd expect in the genre. Especially if you'd played JA2 before hand.

If you're sneaking, using a long range weapon and on one side of the map while the enemy are on the other you shouldn't be automatically detected when firing, after just one shot the enemy shouldn't be able to zero in on your position.

No idea about the melee character, there's just too much ammo in the game to make a melee character worthwhile. Besides the real problem is getting close enough without being detected in the first place.

A really high sneak skill would get you close enough.
But theres not enough realism for me. if somebody smacks you on the back of the head with a large hammer from a foot away without you knowing they are there you're gonna it the deck whether your'e a super mutant or not.

well thanks for your replys sorry if there was a lot of negative stuff in there.
Just one more question i figure from your previous replys you have played jagged alliance 2 is it possible to play the kind of way i've been talking about with that game or is it also quite flawed?

It's not a perfect game, then what is? Burst fire annoys me even when it's been patched but if you want to play a stealth character then probably it's more your sort of thing. You can add silencers to handguns and smgs and in the add on there is a silenced sniper rifle. Or you can sneak up behind someone and take them out in one go with a throwing knife, actually that's very effective (if you have a good throwing skill) way of dispatching people.

Damn now I want to re-install JA2 again, if I do that I'll never get my campaign finished. :(

Yeah that sounds good gonna check out gamespot for screenshots
and review.
fallout awakening is a great mod by the way if you havn't already played it like fallout three should have been.

I've been able to do sneaky stuff with my character. I sneak up on a Super-Mutant and make sure there's no other Super-Mutie nearby, then I stab him in the head with the Razor Claws (the Wolverine wannabe weapon) from behind and he's dead instantaneously (is that even a word) and I'm not detected. But you really have to make sure there's no one nearby, I still get caught often with that.

yes it can be done with the right care and continuous saving.
Another thing i noticed is that when you sneak attack even from range then duck out of the enemys line of sight you still cant sneak for a while and continue to have the detected state is this a bug?

Yeah, what's up with that. I once knew for sure no enemy could see me or was even near... and still I couldn't sneak again... had to wait like 5 minutes.

You'd have to ask someone at MF to be certain, but I don't believe it's a bug. If you fire a single shot duck out of sight and move position you can start sneaking again a lot faster than if you had sprayed a burst. So I presume that was intentional.
