Stalker CS Review Roundup + Patch

I think i'll do the same as i did for the first stalker, wait several months for them to have fixed bug's that shouldnt have made it to release, and pay a reduced price for it.

Maybe if everyone did that they would learn.

Though it's more likely they'd just blame piracy.

yeah, unfortunately there are so many people (like me) who just can't wait and want the game released as soon as possible :P

seriously though, it's really an awful trend in the gaming world to released unfinished games. I have a lot of respect for Blizzard for not setting any release dates until they're certain there are no major bugs or instabilities. I wish more companies were like that, but I guess you don't have a choice unless you publish your own games.

I no longer blame anyone but the customers.

After all, as long as you keep buying into it, why should they provide a better service, in every other industry they deliver as little as the compitetion will allow, why expect games to be different.

Hell, customers even defend it, can't remember anyone defending ford for the wheels falling off, but fixing it soon after purchase.

ill buy it when it comes out. maybe ill run into problems, but a) i can begin to <strike>destroy</strike> mod the files, and b) the patches will come out anyway. only difference would be 20 euros gsc wont get if i delay my purchase.

and perhaps, ill switch to vista and see all the shiny dx10 features in the menatime... who knows. i havent found anything that tells me dx10 is vastly superior to dx9, except some features that require some future computer from space to run in decent fps. so ill wait it out, like i do with my tax declarations.

Clear Sky IS AWESOME.

Everything that was lacking in STALKER:SoC is back in Clear Sky with a vengeance. AWESOME.

And my CE is AWESOME too!

i absolutely loved s:shoc, and i'm very happy they released CSky this year. tho i haven't played fo3 myself yet, i saw the demo and i am positive that it won't have the most important thing that s:cs will have: atmosphere!

so at least, there is a good game in '08 waiting to be played :-)

you're absolutely right, but at the same time can you imagine the majority of gamers saying "fuck it, I'm not gonna buy this game until it's fully patched and tweaked"?

if not enough copies are sold upon release, there won't be any support for the game. and maybe not even a company to support it anymore.

so yeah, the customers are to blame for buying into it and not demanding more from the gaming companies. but ultimately, the publishers are to blame for even thinking about releasing a faulty product in the first place.

"As easy to misunderstand as it is to break, it again turns the best and worse of PC gaming into something extraordinary. [Oct 2008, p.94]"

70% from PC Format
"Not strictly a failure, but it is potentially 2008's most disappointing PC game, and will certainly need a hefty post-release patch. [Oct 2008, p.100]"

and another one from 3DJuegos, a spanish magazine

79% from3DJuegos
"The second episode of Shadow of Chernobyl is a mere update of contents, a version 1.5 of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The overcrowding of the maps, the control system of territories and the more focused rate towards the action might irritate some and please others; but somehow they are incorporations that take away from the horror atmosphere of the series and turn it into a more conventional and repetitive action game. Nevertheless Clear Sky continues being a really interesting FPS and we enjoy its difficult and unpredictable proposal and, especially, if we play it on a high end PC. "

This is exactly the problem I have with this game. This and the fact that my 9800 GT SLI probably won't play it on DX10 in 1280*1024 at more than 25 fps.

Really enjoyed Stalker, although I never got around to modding it, partly just because there were so many mods didn't know which ones to use.

I'm currently playing Stalker CoC with the Kanyhalos Oblivion Lost mod and it's way much better than the vanilla version, he took away the most annoying quests poping up (only through dialogues), the fixing of armor and weapons is a must have, add to that new monsters, new artefacts and even artefact alchemy. Great mod.

As for CS i'm buying at release (here in Brazil), because they patched the crap out of the first game which means that even if CS is a little bugged they will give attention to that, unlike Oblivion or Gothic 3 developers. No reason to doubt them if they never screwed up is my motto at least.
