Stalker screenies

Can't wait.

The whole idea of the game may seem a bit over-ambitious, but if they can pull it off it should be great fun :D

Wow! That's something! I think Stalker will be even more interesting than HL2. Good that Ukrainians are making such good games!

The thing I really like about these screen shots is the way the devs handled the lighting and shadowing effects. The tech for that stuff has really advanced by leaps and bounds within just the last year or two.

Yes but can they handle the language difficulties? Just look at Silent storm. Bad grammar can really kill a game. They need a good story too, somethig which we haven't even heard of yet. Graphics just don't make a game.

And it does NOT look better than Half-life 2...

Hahahaha, fantastic contradiction there.

Graphics, as far as I am concerned, can flip around and eat it. Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 do not interest me, at all. Brainless FPS-shooters can be dressed up as much as you will, they're still brainless FPS-shooters.

Put a monkey in a suit....

Stalker, however, almost looks more like an RPG with FPS elements than a FPS with RPG elements. I don't like mixing those genres, tho'. Mix two genres and you're bound to end up with the worst of both of them.

Graphics vs. Play'ah Point Of View vs. Story Trees vs. Gramm-mar

This variant on ""Tastes Great vs. Less Filling"" may blossom into
a ""Chicken or Egg"" Texas Chainsaw omelet Bustin' barbecue, with hearty slices of canned pork shoulder dipped in a firery mesquite sauce. Or it may be like blind leading the blind taste testing American Corporate Beer by products.

I don't know.

I do know that I checked the video ""STALKER"" out of the pub' library, made the perceptual switch to non-Hollywood movie mode, (See watching all those Swedish films in the '70's and '80's finally paid off!),
and enjoyed the "final reel" wish fulfillment ...

Now, do the Ukrainians add a strong dose of Chernobol with a run and gun Sci Fi panache, shaken but not stirred, and pour it into the empty glasses of our post apocalyptic expectations?

Or will it be another flavor of ""HALO-DOOM-HALFLIFETWO"" ?

""HEAVY----Metal U234 Medal Of Honor""?

Just askin'.

From what I can see in the screenshot on the official stalker page, the game seems to be more than a HL2 or Doom3 shoot em up type thing, well at least the setting is something new and mysterious. HL2 and doom3 on the 'new setting' element. (yeah I know that HL2 will now be in the ouside world bla bla, but I still consider Stalker to be more interesting).

P.S. I am Ukrainian, so that could affect my preference!
