STATIC Tech Demo: Second Version Where ?

RE: static demo...

Well, i'm guessing that it is because this way it's easier to download. For instance, if someone with a dial-up modem would have to download the entire thing, it would not only take a lot of time but the connection could be interuppeted for some reason. Therefor if somebody like that has downloaded say the first 5 parts and his connection brakes during download of the sixth, he will not loose everything and will not have to start over from scratch.
It's only a guess though.

RE: static demo...

Yup! I mean, hell! You want me to download 211 Meg of game all at once over my home dial-up 56k god-damn slow-arse net connection? You've got to be joking.... It takes about 2 hours ro download 20 meg. My ISP cuts me off after 2 hours if they're busy so it works out jus about right. Of course, I've got a 250 meg download limit per month which I'm already over for this month.... So I'll need to get it at the end of next month... When it won't matter. :)

Downloading that thing all at once would take me upwards of 20 hours.

RE: static demo...

Wel that was fun.... I just downloaded static at work (took all of about 2 hours) only to discover...... It doesn't work on Windows NT. Now I need to find someone of getting the bitch onto my home computer without e-mailing it and taking 60 hours to check my e-mail... Disks seem to be a good idea, although, at 12 disks per file... Eesh.... Why haven't that made bigger disk drives like zip drives a standard yet? 1.44 meg is so limiting....

And a CD burner gives so much freedom... Too bad I don't have one :-(

Hi there, I discovered this little independent fallout like gem of a game, called STATIC while browsing this site (http://fallout.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/). I went to download it but the link was sadly dead as the game was canceled. I noticed that both fileplanet (http://www.fileplanet.com/86619/80000/fileinfo/Static-Tech-Demo-(Level-1)) and NMA (http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=726) had the tech demo but it is my belief that this is the first version. I think this primarily as the download size this site indicates (http://fallout.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/static/downloads.html) is about a 100 mb difference from the other two. Also I used the waybackmachine to check the old STATIC website (http://web.archive.org/web/20050716041159/www.static-thegame.com/down_loads_index.html)
and they collaborated my thoughts. So after that long story any thoughts on where I can find this version of the STATIC demo (that being v.025.07) as the link from rpg planet was dead as the STATIC website is dead. Hope you can help and thanks for any info you can provide.

Hi,

Thank you for using our forum, and sharing your research.

However, this topic would belong in the Gaming forum, which I am moving it to. You might also notice that there is a thread on a Static demo, therefore I am going to merge them.

To answer your question, yes, it has been known tht there was a demo more advanced than the one you can get from NMA, but we were unable to get a hold of it. If you find a place where it is hosted though, please let us know.

Oops

Sorry about that  . I guess I will have to look harder next time. I will keep looking and come back when I find something.

Success

Success my friends, after much searching and after nearly losing all hope I have found the second demo. It was actually quite easy as somebody on a gaming torrent website I frequent (underground gamer) had it. My only problem is uploading it with my slow (756k) connection. Any thoughts?

Can't be helped. Possibly you can burn it on a CD and upload it from somewhere with a better connection.

Either way, NMA'd surely like to have it as well

Uh.

I have it. Problem is, it's on my old... uh... "computer".

I'll try to fire up 'ol Frankenstein and see what build it is.

What, to here?

I don't see it. It's probably too big to upload, which means I have to chuck it up on the fileserver instead. Mail it to brothernone@nma if so.

This was awesome.

I started to read the thread from the beginning, and was all like 'omg are these guys from the stone age or what'?

Heh, good times.

Also, how did these people manage to post before their join date?

This thread was imported from the "old" pre-phpBB forum and merged then. Don't ask about the queries used, though I saved them somewhere for reference.
