Strange... (FO2 Intro)

I just rewatched the Fallout 2 intro (is rewatch a legitimate word?) and after taking a snapshot and brightening it up, something odd came out.

Look at the supposed cave entrance: It's clearly made of some kind of fabric, like a tent. And in the upper left, behind the ribbed hose of the Advanced Power Armour, there is something disturbingly regular, like a house... zoom in to see it better.

Not to mention it's the only moment in the whole game we get a clear shot at the APA... a shame it's so small.

Damn, I'm watching too much Lost.

That's no fabric, that's concrete or bricks and steel cables. So it could be a reinforced cave entrance to make sure the cave wouldn't cave in and the dwellers would be able to get out when they wanted to.

As for the solid object, could just as well be another Vertibird or rocks.

I'm getting old, 18 and rising ;)

Right, Sander, that is a brick wall... however....

WAIT!

I suppose this image was used as a backdrop, the left ruined building feats neatly.

Yer, where's it from? Upon closer examination, you'll notice how that's neither the same house nor the same sky in the images though - they're just similar. Could be different versions of the same pic, I dunno.

Aye... nothing beats making threads half-way into the night, half-asleep, half-alive.

Anyways, the second shot is from the unused "THE END" mve, however, while it may not be the same graphic, the feature behind the APA mask hose is similar to the ruin in the second shot, ergo - it's quite probably a ruin.

The question is WHAT it is.

ah, so you assumed that the Vault in the video was V13? there is no number on the vault door and the cave/entrance is not large enough, hence it cannot be V13.

anyhow, the Enclave would probably know the location of nearly all vaults. i think this is just a generic vault near a generic city, not actually connected or relevant to the game itself.

the city and vault might not even be connected. the artist might have just recycled his work.

If I recall correctly, the Bible states that that is indeed supposed to be Vault 13 (I could be wrong, though).
I believe this movie was somewhat rushed, though, and not much time was spent on it.

But no, the images don't fit Vault 13.

I meant what happens in it.

Also, does anyone else get the impression, that the APA from the intro is very similiar to Starcraft powered armor?

From the distance, they do look similar (if you're talking about the marine PA). But the shoulderpads are different, in SC they look a bit like rugby shoulderpads.

You are right about the building on the background. I did some photoshopping and they are the same. The sky however is not.

The sky however is not.

O rly?

Know your photoshopping better!

A closer inspection shows that it's actually the same sky, just the colors are different.
And by the way the clouds look it seems to me it's a photo that was used as background in both cases.

Yes, I see that know...

But hey, I only started photoshopping like 4 weeks ago... and I don't use it that much yet :P

There is something strange about this vault, I thought the vaults were placed somwhere out of sight (like the cave outside V13, the sewer in Necropolis and the cave under the cathedral). The thing wich is bothering me, is the fact that this vault is almost out in the open country, the tunnel is like 10 feet long and the vaultdoor would be visible. Wouldn't the supermutants in Fallout 1 find the vault and use the Vaultdwellers to make intelligent mutants?

This was just something that seemed strange to me...

the supermutants didn't reach that far throughout the US. the enclave however is only limited by fuel constraints. you can fly pretty far with a vertibird. :)

although, normal raiders would likely have blasted it open. but it's possible the vault was within a highly radioactive area, which would 'protect' it. the enclave couldve easily transmitted a fake 'all clear' signal to have the dwellers open it up.
