First time out of the vault
SuAside:

Both the Oblivion and Fallout communities house very skilled modders and perhaps if those two meet on equal ground there might be hope for a few moments of Fallout bliss. Could these communities create a hors-serie freeroaming 'Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines'-like game in a universe true to the Fallout lore? Time will tell...

Can anyone fill me in on this please...? What does SuAside mean...was Vampire Bloodlines created by people from a modding communty? Or does he mean he just likes Vampire Bloodlines a lot?[/quote]

He's saying that with a lot of modding effort we might be able to salvage Fallout 3 - if it turns out as bad as it looks right now - to be a kind of deep action game/RPG hybrid, like Bloodlines.

i just meant that maybe some of Fallout 3 can be salvaged (read: made worth playing) if both modding communities work together.

i mentioned V:tM-B but i might just as well have said Deus Ex, i suppose. it was just an illustration of in which direction a mod could take Fallout 3. i dont think any amount of modding could make FO3 look like a true sequel of the FO series, but if you take what you get (a good graphic engine, first person or over the shoulder camera, etc), you might be able to turn it into something quite interesting.

my desire would be for a modding team to turn FO3 into a V:tM-B style experience that completely adheres to FO canon.

PS: and no, V:tM-B was made by Troika. what is most special about the game to me is that while it is mostly hack&slash and pretty linear, it still gives you a very good roleplaying experience.

Thanks both for the clarifying reply.
I'm realy concerend about general pc-game-development issues.
Personaly I think video- and pc-games are amongst the srongenst and most potential modern media.
However, to me it seems like the orginal fallout series were the only games to ever fuly life up to this potential.
I find it strange that the actual course of gamedevelopment is so stronly defined by mainstream standards.

To me V:tM-B meant a short relief, cause im always looking to have this RPG expierce like in Fallout re-experienced .

Well the good part is that we will have the S.P.E.C.I.A.L system at our disposal. I had the plan to actually obtain the rights to the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system and spin-off a Fallout game of my own. When I inquired Bethesda about purchasing the rights, they said the following:

In response to your inquiry, please be advised that all of the content
including the names appearing in Fallout 3(r) are the copyrighted
property of
Bethesda Softworks LLC and any use thereof is unauthorized. We are not
looking to license the rights to any of our copyrighted material at
this
time.

Som unless FO3 is a flop there is no other legit way to do something about the series w.o modding.

Note: I had no idea how much the rights would've cost, but was willing to part with one of my kidneys.

Bethesda probably wouldn't sell Fallout rights for less than 6 million even if it flops. And I don't think anyone will be looking to buy if it flops.

Purchasing SPECIAL is probably impossible. They might be interested in allowing people to license SPECIAL at some point, but certainly not for Fallout-esque games and certainly not us

Licensing would've been good enough for me. A Fallout game without the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system couldn't really be considered fallout, could it?

We'll just have to wait and see. Another way to go is to get a job at Bethesda as a lead artist, but that's not likely to happen soon. :(
