Swearing BoS Paladins? Nope.

Steve "MrSmileyFaceDude" Meister noticed this on the Bethesda Softworks Forums during a discussion regarding the soldier-like, machismo behaviour of the BoS identified in the demo by NMA.
Actually, only Initiate Reddin was swearing & all gung-ho in the demo. Vargas even told her to knock it off, more than once.
Now that is good news.

If it's true (and that's a pretty big IF), then this might actually be one of the first things I've heard from Bethesda that made me sigh with relief.

This might be a strange thing to say, but the more we put down Fallout 3 pre-release, the more possibility the game has to surprise us. Hmm.

SuA, comment?
I don't remember nuthin'
can't tell if Vargas ever told the dude to knock it off (as Pete was talking at the time), but yeah, there was only one extremely vocal member of the squad when you initially meet them.

further along the road, you don't really hear them say much, iirc. (except a few scripted conversations like the one at the dying BoS soldier where you get the laser rifle)

i'd indeed be good news if the squad leader told the mofo to quit it, but that still only fixes a tiny issue. the BoS NPCs still move like utter retards (let alone squad cohesion or meaningful deployment of assets... yeah, let's rush out of the building where we have cover to shoot the big mean green man point blank!) and the BoS itself still feels wrong in placement (magically there to save your bacon), equipment (fubar PA, no helmets, etc) and mindset (allowing you to pick up a laser rifle while most are only equiped with the assault rifles).

Pretty irrelevant info at this point for me...it's not like I can magically forget about the FP/RT console design...

I love the brotherwood of still. They are so cute. Like the shiny knights of the nine, fighting for good against evil and shit. Deir aushum :)

Its good to hear that.

To be honest if there is one guy I like at Bethesda it is MSFD. If they allowed him to talk on the forums more like he did back in the months and weeks before Morrowind was released, instead of that tool Gstaff being the main contact point I might actually feel a tiny bit better about the games future. When talking to MSFD it always felt like he was taking whatever you had to say to heart. And like he really loved the game as much as the fans did.

I just don't get that from Pete Hines, or Gstaff, and for sure not the toddster.

Good news, but such misbehaviour shouldn't have been there anyway, and should have been suppressed quickly.

Looking to speculation, did 'Initiate' Reddin happen to be wearing power armour instead of combat armour? So the Brotherhood are presumably well established in the local area, showing a militaristic interest and lack of respect for their equipment?

no helmets,

Helmets are not relevant. Paladins in Fallout 1 mostly didn't wear helmets neither, even on patrols.

I guess thats heroic 50s pulp comic SCIENCE! in the works. You don't need a helmet if you've a near-impenetrable armour donned, apparently.

They didn't allow you to steal weapons THAT easily, though.

still bothers me.

in FO, you kinda had to use the 2 male paladin animations to prevent from becoming boring. but here we're talking about a 3D game without fixed animations and models, without the restrictions that FO1 had to work with.

you can easily make the squad leader be helmetless (for dialog purposes, though still silly considering their former leader kicked the bucket due to an ARROW to the head), while flavoring the ones with helmets in many ways. personalising and randomising is easy nowadays in 3D worlds.

as for the armor thing, i cant remember if the initiate had PA or not... i'm leaning towards no, actually.

at the risk of sounding estupido.. why do i keep hearing the word demo bandied about? I imagine you are talking about the trailer?

Brother None & I went to a press demonstration / preview in Leipzig this summer, which is what we refer to as 'the demo'.

Good news. You can cross off 'foulmouthed' from the 'foulmouthed noble knights of the wasteland' thing needing to be fixed.
