Swift learner not working? (trying to cheat :-/ )

First time out of the vault
My pc crashes so often that i can't possibly go any further in tough guy mode...
so i was thinking, why not cheat and give 20 'swift learner' perk to my character, so i would have the bonus exp and still be able to save before a crash...
Well it didn't work at all :?
no experience bonus whatsoever...so i tried several other methods like not giving him the perk, but giving him 'perks to trade' and choosing swift learner. I even tried to give him only 3 swift learner, but still no xp gain. So is this perk broken? and if yes, does it work on previous versions? (i currently have 1.27 but i don't think i'll go under 1.25)

and last, is there another method for doubling the xp?

I had the same problem when I played in Tought Guy mode. It was most frustrating when I had almost finished the map and the game just crashes and returns to desktop. I just started it all over again in non-Tough Guy mode.

First of all: I don't see why you would need all the extra XP, since FOT is dead-easy as it is (well, I think it is).

Secondly: you can only take 3 levels of Swift Learner, so don't expect the game to react properly when you edit your character and give him 20 levels of it.

Thirdly: Swift Learner is like teh most stupid perk you can possibly take anyway. It's not worth it, trust me. If you have all three levels of it, it'll give you 15% more experience. So, when you would normally get 100.000 xp after a while, you'll have 115.000 xp when taking all three levels of Swift Learner. If you know that you need more than 10.000 xp to level up once you've reached level 7 or so, you should understand that it doesn't change a hell of a lot.

I'm not sure, but I don't think it's broken. What you witness is what I just told you: it doesn't make a real difference. Swift Learner is an utterly useless perk.

Tough Guy Mode, but that's a risk with such a buggy game (as you've noticed). The best way to gain more xp would be this: wander around the wasteland and gather extra xp in random encounters. There's no time limit, so you can do that for hours on end if you like to play that way.

I find it a nice challenge to make a good, balanced character with the limited xp that I get in the course of the game. I thought that was one of the best things about the SPECIAL system and these kind of games. But hey, that's just me. I don't like editing and cheating in games.
 
yeah i understand, but it's not about cheating it's about 'emulating' the tough guy mode...and thats why i needed this perk, i know its quite a useless perk :)
 
Swift learner is definately broken. If you're having trouble with crashing in TG unpack all the maps and in the level editor (assuming you're patched to 1.27) open each map and tick "is bunker" this will allow you to save anywhere (except the world map) while in TG mode.
