Edit a "premade" character to be your standard. You should be able to edit that character with the FT Tools program just like any other entity.
Note about colors - you can make things colors that are brighter than normal. In the color picker, simply give the RGB values numbers greater than 100%... this should be an "illuminating" experience for you.
If they are already on your team, then you are stuck with what they have. Before you recruit them they can be changed though. Once you save the information in a saved game slot, it shifts where the information is stored.
