Yes, the engineer is a recent addition. HD versions are available from your local Steam :]

They are awesome. Wish Bethesda was a developer like VALVe.

Crap I have not played TFC since it first came out. I really do miss it...

Wow those adds just plain PWND! hah

...Unless its a farm? Jesus, what genius will they conjure up next!

I never got to play much of the original TFC, much to my regret.

I just wonder if my comp is good enough to make getting the Orange Box worth it... these little shorts are beautiful. Hope they make one for each of the characters... Spy and Medic both have some good material.

"Unless it's a farm!"

lol funny :)

i played a lot of the original TF mod for Quake... one thing i remember is the crappy jumpy red dot the sniper rifle had... and the enemys head popping off when hit ..

They have some great writers. Will have to try it.
Maybe someone here has pre-ordered the orange box and can comment on the TF2 beta?

Hah, oh wow, that reminds me of the joke folk would tell, "Do you know what a noob says while playing TFC? Why does this friggin' red dot keep killing me!"

I've just been playing the beta, and I can report that it's great fun.

It's significantly different to past incarnations of Fortress; there's no grenades, and the controls have been streamlined and simplified.
Note that by simplified, I don't mean dumbed-down.
Anyone who's played previous Fortress titles has to admit that all of the binds you needed to be efficient could get a little overwhelming.

The classes all have unique personalities, and these personalities manifest while playing.
Expressions change, comments come unprompted and it all ties together with incredible style.

I think this may even have the power to pull me away from GW:EN, it's that compelling.

That's not to say it's without problems.
Mouse input for me seemed to go a bit haywire at some points, leaving me without control.
I had the game crash whilst trying to connect to a server.
The very first server I joined, some joker had set up a killing zone outside the spawn point and had changed server damage variables so that you died immediately on spawn. I suspect this was in an attempt to artificially inflate his stats.

So still pretty much beta, but not problems it's going to take Valve an age to iron out.

Hey cool info! thanks for the insight. I have faith in Valve to do the right thing with this one as they have not really steered me wrong so far.

Just to further report, it gets better.
It's been a long time since a game's actually made me really laugh out loud.
This isn't just knowing chuckles, this is the same sort of laughs you get when watching a damn good comedian.
I was bursting out laughing all night last night while playing, from the screenshot displaying my unfortunate gibbage and subsequent labelling of body parts ("Your foot"; "A bit of you"), to the jarhead soldier's contextual speech when on fire of "I AM on fire", voiced in that wonderful drill sergeant bark.
And then there's the wonderfully gimp-like pyro, where all speech is muffled due to his mask, resulting in everything he says coming out as some variation of "Mmmmmmf!"

It's just a joy to play, and to top it all off, the gameplay is fantastically deep. Teamplay is actively promoted, and unlike previous versions of fortress where it felt like there were too many classes, each has it's place and role now.
There's nothing quite like playing as a medic and hooking up with a heavy as he goes on a killing rampage, laughing like a maniac as he spits leaden death all around.

I would buy the Orange Box purely for this game, it's that much fun.

I am going to agree with the previous posters. The game is all kinds of fun. I saw a medic class following a heavy around healing him and as the heavy came under fire he yelled out "Get behind me doctor!"

I've been playing a sniper and I've gotten pretty good at picking off the medic in the medic-heavy combo and then picking off the heavy. I like this game alot.

If you pre-buy the orange box on steam you can play it today.

But seeing Portal listed in the "Not Installed" section makes me cry a little inside.

The Orange box comes with Half-Life 2, Eposide 1 (I think) and 2, Team Fortess 2, Portal, and a simple game called Peggel that is fun.

I already own HL2 and eposide 1 but Portal and TF2 are 50 bucks on their own, right now the orange box is $44

Thats good information to have as I previously could not justify buying the Orange box when I own all of the products listed baring TFC2

i'm overjoyed to see gibs in those videos and with great style too :D ... can anyone who played the beta confirm this ?

*yes i have a juvenile fondness of gibs :) esp. Q:TF style gibs

Hahaha, not only are there gibs but I have a couple of stories about them.

When you die it zones it on the person that kills you. I got killed close range by a rock guy and when it zoomed n on him there were captions and arrows point to "Your Head" "Your Foot"

There is one map with some water in it, one of my team mates ran up the stairs and got exploded. His leg and arm came flying and landed in the water and started floating around. It was disturbing and hilarious.
