First time out of the vault
the problem has a spoiler for a quest line, here we go...

[spoiler:fc81283754]im trying to help Roy Phillips take over Tenpenny Tower and i have the key and i know where the special door is, but it says the door is unlocked elsewhere, but i cant get any of the computers in tenpenny to unlock it. anyone know?[/spoiler:fc81283754]
 
Hack the terminal near the door or shoot the generator. The generator is to your right when you enter the basement, shoot it with any weapon.
 
the good news is i figured out why i couldnt get in, apaprently those items are loading in my game, so i think i have to use that unlock console command :shock:

but yea, down in that absement, with the huge blast looking door/vault looking door, theres nothing except a hobo barrell

UPDATE: just tried the console command, and it unlocked the door, but it still says its activated from somewhere else. nice.
 
You have to get to the basement from the outside. Behind tenpenny is a stair which leads to a extraroom of the basement.
