The Darkness II

Anybody else anxiously awaiting the release of this game?! Well, I loved the original The Darkness and after I heard that Digital Extremes have been put in charge of developing this game(instead of starbreeze, the original developers) I was kind of worried.

But I have less worries now, after reading this article.

So is anybody going to buy this? It sure is a day 1 buy for me. As long as I have the dough at least. :D

Also, this time around this game will also be released for PC, unlike it's predecessor.

I felt kinda bad about the first game. I mean, I felt bad because of it. It looked interesting and appealing at the time, but nooo, console exclusive.
So, even though the sequel is for PC, I won't try it. I hate starting the series from the middle without being able to play the predecessors.
Shame...

Well, it's too bad you couldn't play the first game. It's kind of strange why it wasn't released for the pc.
Every other starbreeze game was released for the PC too.

LOVED the first game but have zero interest in this one. Don't like the direction they took with the style. That was one of the great things about the first game, especially the WWI sequences.

The developer is also no Starbreeze.

Judging by most previews and a few early reviews such as this one this game is going to fucking ROCK!

The only bad thing about it so far seems to be Jackies voice, which isn't Kirk Acevedo work anymore.

But seriously people, this is the closest thing you'll get to Blood II:

I tried the demo. I hate the art style. Low res and ugly. It's like they decided: oh, let's not spend time making beautiful and detailed graphics, let's just make our concept art into textures! Yes, we're such geniuses! Ugh...

Didn't Darkness 1 have a realistic style? I wonder why they took this path.

The FOV is unsuitable for PCs, it makes my head hurt. I hope for those who are gonna buy it that they'll have a FOV slider in the full version.

But the FPS mechanics I liked. And now that serge mentions it, it is a bit like Blood.

I won't buy it, because they won't let me play Darkness 1 without buying one of those silly TV boxes.

Ugh, like I've stated, Jackie was one of the large reasons why I loved the first one so much. And his voice was one of the reasons why I was so attached to him. He was a very sympathetic sensitive badass. I've heard the new voice actor and he possesses none of those qualities. I am disappoint. Disappointed in a way that might prevent me from dishing out money for this game at release.

Wait, did that review say it was only 6 hours long? Fuck, I'll just rent the damn thing if that's the case. It plays awesome, but 6 hours is too short for a 60 dollar game.

6 hours? Sigh. Can't say I'm surprised. Something had to be sacrificed for the co-op mode. One more reason to not buy it.

Never played the first game but I did try the demo of the sequel just now.

I liked how the game tries to be more than just another FPS by using more than just standard weapons (you have regular weapons and "demon arms"), impaling an enemy with a pipe you just pulled from a wall is kind of fun.

I liked the dark comic book style and atmosphere.

There is no mouse acceleration.

The voice acting is top notch.

Eating hearts to regain health seemed like a cool idea but what's the point in doing this when your health regenerates in a few seconds...

The "talent system" looks pretty cool and extensive.

Why does every modern FPS needs a retarded score system and show an annoying little "X" on the enemies I hit?

Technically the game is nothing special but the engine does its job and apart from the somewhat lower resolution textures here and there the game looks ok to me. Maybe the full game will have higher resolution textures and more graphical options? (The demo is only 1.5 GB on PC)

The very linear nature of the game, the high frequency of cutscenes (combined with the 6 hours it supposedly takes to play through this game...) and the small nauseating FOV are the main reasons I won't be buying this game on release. If they fix the FOV I might pick it up in a year or so for 10-15€.

You have to eat hearts because you've got a segmented health meter that'll only fill up to the end of the current meter on it's own.

You eat hearts to fortify your health.

Just like real life.

Yup, it seems that the game is incredibly short. Damn, it's a tie between this and Kingdoms of Amalur for me. Went to downtown tehran today and the stores had neither of them. Have a few more days to decide until they are available here.

But somehow I am in need of a shooter. Having played 'AC: Brotherhood' in the past few days, I don't really feel like playing another open world game.

See fellas, linearity also has it's place! :D

From what it seems, the story and the quests in kingdoms of amalur are quite generic. The quests don't seem to have much depth. But I have to agree with you guys on The Darkness II. It's a 5 hour long linear shooter. 5 hours...5 HOURS!!! Jeez...what where they thinking! I mean what's the point in having a talent system when the game is so short! :D
My heart is broken! :(

Get Kingdoms of Amalur. It's good. It's got a few issues, and I guess you might not like the game's art style, but at the very least it has fast and fun combat, and gives you a hundred hours of gameplay. There's no way I can justify paying $60 for a 5-hour shooter these days.

That's decent to hear, I was planning on picking it up in a few months when the price dropped and I had some extra time to play it.

Right now, I'm waiting for my new computer parts to show up.

But I am playing Soul Calibur V.

I like it, but then again I've never been a fan of fighting games with strange single-player modes.

Unless you count BlazBlue, they did it well.

I am counting on Kingdom Of Amalur to get me out of my 360 gaming hiatus. It looks a lot more interesting than Skyrim. That and Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 when the price goes down.

Edit: I posted this in the wrong thread. I am retarded.

The last screenshot reminds me of Vampire Bloodlines... Damn,

I want to feel that vibe again, the hell with these generic shooters!
