The Enclave and Vault City

DarkWarrior

First time out of the vault
I know that the Enclave hates pretty much everyone on the mainland on the account of being "Mutants".

Would their hatred of "Mutants" extend to Vault City (since it was mentioned in-game that they've been above ground for quite a while), or would they see them as "Pure" humans?

I figure they would consider them as proper stock, just like they thought of Vault 13's dwellers. But then again, they've been exposed to the outside world for a good while, so who knows.

Depends on the Enclave's glow-o-meter, or what have you.

Vault City has a surprisingly high rate of mutation caused by the leaky Gecko power plant (mentioned in a Holo disk) so I think the Enclave would probably treat them as scum.

Actually, I have been walking around with the idea that the Enclave considers/considered itself to be descendants from 'superior' human stock (scientists, soldiers, technicians, politicians (heh), corporate heads) and uncontaminated Vault Dwellers from lesser pure human stock (basically everyone who wasn't a member of the Enclave).

Vault Dwellers are pure humans to the Enclave, considered worthy enough to be considered civilians, but needing the leadership and guidance of the Enclave to actually accomplish something.

Most of this superior self view would come from the propaganda the descendants were brought up with.

They considered the Arroyo villagers to be mutants, 80 years after their ancestors left V13. Vault 8 opened just two years after the war, so VC has been around for 160 years, plus the Gecko problem. Definitely mutants. The Enclave might have accepted the V13 residents, if they didn't consider them mere test subjects.

Considering Vault City stance on Mutants, it would't surprise me if The Enclave had better relations with Vault City than most wastelanders. I think they're mostly pure human stock, though the whole lack of acidental pregnancies is strange. Are they infertile muties?

I think it is somewhere implied that most of Vault City's population is actually sterile, and not necessarily because of contaminated water.

I assume men are sterilized after donating their sperm samples. As syPhyllis says, the only succesful pregnancies are those that are a result of artificial insemination by the Auto-Doc.

Nasty.

I have been replaying F2 and I don't know if it was original or because of the RP. If you had enough science skill you can point out the possible cause of terilisation may be in part due to background radiation from Geckos' leaky popwerplant.

And I second the motion that the enclave would treat VC just as shitty. Seems you cannot win. You are either a mutant (where your killed), or your from a freshly opened vault (where you are experimented on and killed). Seems like the enclave don't like holocaust survivors period.

Well as I suggested before, I think the Enclave considers the uncontaminated populations of Vaults 'lesser'.
Perhaps in time useful to absorb as civilians with the possibility that someone of worth might be born once in a while but in general an expendable population.

I think that a weakened Enclave would probrably be willing to make a alliance with Vault City. Poseidon Reactor Nº5 was once Poseidon Energy propriety. The Enclave could easily "solve" the situation with the ghouls, improve the reactor with their more advanced technology and maybe even help VC build a second reactor. All in exchange for what the Enclave needs, of course.

Frankly, I think Fallout 3 dropped the ball on the Enclave. Autumn's Enclave is portrayed as evil, even though his ideas didn't involve massive genocide. I think that the Enclave post-Fallout 2 would probrably soften. Think facists with a "Order, Prosperity and death to Mutants" campaign. Except that "Mutants" = Hideous, weird mutated beings, like Ghouls or Super Mutants. The fact that the Enclave old guard died on the Oil Rig is clear. The head of the Enclave's Military is a middle-aged Colonel, rather than a General or Marshall.

With the bigwigs dead, I totally forsee the enclave as turning into some kinda militaristic warlord faction on par with the brotherhood of steel. With the brotherhood you have religious techno fanatics. With the enclave you have money/power hungy techno fanatics.

Heh... I think that even if they DID want to make all nicey-nice with Vault City (for whatever reason and for however long) five minutes with that bitch Lynette would have them busting out a nuke to shove someplace close to the stick up that woman's ass. (I always make a point of locking her door, going aggro, and letting my pack of dogs- robot and otherwise- tear that stuck-up bitch to shreds! :P )
