the failings of the SPECIAL system

What would you suggest for excess stats then? ;D
The ten cap should stay, but any excess stats should have different effects. Let's say you boost strength over 10, then it would show 10+ but our carry weight and melee and weapons would deal more damage. The same could be applied towards other stats with exceptions such as luck.

Taken from my first post.

Hmmm...Could we possibly think of an excess bonus to luck? Luck can really only be gained with the scans IIRC.

Something like each point of luck over 10 grants 3% to each skill?

Max you can get over 10 is 2 anyway.

I am not sure, it could work. But excess luck is not something that should be tempered with. There is a reason, why some of the stats should not go over ten, in my opinion. If ten is peak of human luck or inteligence, how does more stats affect it, should it affect it?

I am all up for increasing things such as strength, perception, maybe endurence, agility since that makes sense.

If you go over luck ten, shouldn't that increase your crit chance as well? I just think that some stats going over ten are hard to balance.

I agree, its hard to rationalise what 'over 10' should be.

It literally suggests superhuman ability, although I'd argue 10 already is borderline superhuman.

over 10 luck would basically signify memetic levels of luck...Maybe to fuck the player and help him at the same time, it adds the jinxed trait? XD

Age of Decadence did this. Even though you can't increase PER, INT, and CHA (which is considered the main attributes for civic skills, and PER can be reduced by Aimed: Head attacks), you can increase STR, DEX, and CON well above 10. CON can be increased at max to 12 (but only if you follow certain questline, if not then only 11), while either STR and DEX can be increased up to 13. And the effect is exactly the same as if you put more points into the stats (1 STR increase damage by 10%, 1 DEX increase AP by 1, CON increase max HP by 5)
