The Institute: A Fallout Black Library

The Lord Full of Doom
I was thinking, although it'd probably be outside of the scope of what Bethesda might want, what if they opened their IP of Fallout more towards writers like GamesWorkshop does for Warhammer 40k in their Black Library. Under my knowledge, essentially certain authors are given the go ahead to write under them and officially publish books set in the warhammer 40k universe. What they write are canon as a supplement mostly, and can be, and have been a lot in the past, rewritten, retconned, and steamrolled over if the gods that be decide that they want to go in a different direction. Or it can be done within the reverse and be canonized, or used as a base for something possibly in a future game, confirmations, or what have you. This could be an interesting concept for those that want more lore to be published. Or would it be better to just focus on the games, rather than expanding anything in terms of lore? Or would it be nice to possibly explore maybe say the life within legion controlled territory, hear the story of a NCR ranger, see what it was like in the pre-Fallout 3 DC wasteland in the eyes of a member of the Brotherhood of Steel and their civil war. Or even explore areas we've never been to. There's a lot of wiggle room for things like this I believe in Fallout that we haven't really ever been able to explore.

Urhhr, rather not, most books and comics based on video games are pretty crappy, at best 'tolerable' fan fic.
But I have seen some of the reactions it has caused, especially from fans of the books (and games) to just the fans of the games when characters appear that were originally just in the books and aren't portrayed as these fans had it in mind.
And of course the reverse, characters from video games appearing in books and comics and being nothing like their original incarnation.

And I definitely do not want to see writers' interpretations of established factions such as the BOS or the NCR, especially when these writers have never actually played the games and base all their background knowledge on design documents provided by Bethesda.

Of course I have no say in this and I would not actually be surprised that it might actually happen one day. But I would not be jumping for joy when that news announcement comes.
