The labyrinth

First time out of the vault
Hi guys has anyone seen the movie labyrinth wih david bowie? It came out in 1986. It really contains quite a large dose of subliminal messaging in it. Is anyone familiar with this? Do you believe it possible?

the only things i remember about the movie are muppets and bowie's package
When did you see it? Do you remember the parts where they used to sing? There's one at the beginning where jareh grabs the baby and sings and one where those redfireys jump out, and one where he carries sarah off into a crystal

Bowie's area was most definitely not "subliminal."

I believe plenty of people are familiar with Labyrinth. It has come up in casual conversation at least twice (exhibits A and B).

On further review, all I can find on such a topic are things like this.

What the fuck mate?
How about some more info than 'there's subliminal messaging!!!' and something to actually, you know, discuss about it.

Well, to explain it good you'd have to watch the movie, because there's a lot of speaking backwards. For example, there's a scene where the goblin king starts singing to the baby, so he'll be happy, and while singing he's asking you a question, wha kind of magic spell did i use, refering to the baby, to make him happy, do you understand? And then we are shown the girl getting lost some more in the labyrinth, and then in the secondo part of the singing he tells he's put the baby on drugs

Really, it's quite hard to explain if you haven't seen the movie. But let's just say things are not really what they look like in that movie.
The film acts on a very primordial base, and you are easily tricked into assisting to various scenes of sex and violence.

I saw the movie. Twice.
Now, please, assume that I'm a complete moron and do your best to explain yourself thoroughly, with details about what you mean by "subliminal messaging".

Then I would have to say you have not seen the movie, as you are doing a dismal job explaining what you mean (if anything, as the case might be).

I've seen the movie, I've seen it multiple times, I would estimate six times that I can remember. I still have very little idea what you mean, a matter little helped by your limited communication skills (such as grammar or formulating clear explanations).

Let us examine some of what you have wrote, shall we?

I have no idea what you mean here. "Tricks" you into "assisting" scenes of sex and violence?

You mention "speaking backwards," but then fail to provide any examples. You mention a scene which you interpret that Bowie is speaking directly to the audience (at least as far as I understand your fractured language) and another scene which you consider to have drug references. Neither of which have to do with "speaking backwards," nor do they make very much sense on their own.

It sounds like Dna_Rna has started English classes similar to those I was subjected to as part of my great Australian education. The system is probably influenced by clueless postmodernist bureaucrats. Grammar, originality and clarity is secondary to spouting BS which has almost nothing to do with the text (everything is a text remember, including a painting or film). However, you do need to at least copy other people's stupid ideas correctly and provide evidence, even if it is also stolen. Has anyone noticed the subtle influence of my training (or lack of it) on my posts?

You seem surprised. If someone acts stupid then someone else is going to call them on it. That's NMA. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

I'm actually glad someone brought this up.

My two cousin's (Males in their twenty's.) both told me its one of their favorite movies. When I asked how something that's meant for children could be so good they both said "There's lots of hidden meanings and such if you watch it." Unfortunately I didnt dare ask what nor bother to watch it to see.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

P.S.

Kotario the discussion on that forum is very informative, but also bizarre. They have a muppet website with dedicated fans some of which have thousands of posts? I guess its just not for little kids...

tayl-you're right lets continue the agenda so that no one will ever feel welcome unless he's not compremising the gene pool.

You know, my favorite Japanese proverb is "Only death can cure a fool."

Oh noes! Kotario's finally lost it and now he's gonna kill half the people on the board! Run!!

Awesome proverb though. I'll be sure to quote it next time I kill someone.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Ok, so if I'm understanding this right, what he's calling "subliminal messages" are actually what I and most of the rest of the world would call "metaphors and allusions and other standard literary/storytelling devices"?
