Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Correct me if I am wrong, but are there not oil reserves in Venezuela? There would be quite a good chance of the United States moving into Latin America if there were, as supporting a global war over dwindling resources might not be cost effective, and require more oil than is gained in such far flung places.
That is exactly the whole point my friend. We export most of our oil and use only a fraction for our local consume, so if we stop exporting, we can use the oil for ourselves for many more years and avoid quick depletion by selling it.
And since it is so costly and little profitable to invade Argentina to size its reserves, we are relatively safe here. Remember that the grater and more technologically advanced is the army, the greater the cost of maintenance and the cost of an invasion. How much do you think the war in Iraq is costing? The US should hope the oil reserves there worth it.
The ones that worries me the most are the Chinese, they are very interested in getting their hands into our coal, trying to buy mines and making all sort of geological studies around here.
All this provided that we stop exporting, which I think is not likely to happen, we have to pay our external debt somehow.
I wonder when the international economical system will begin to collapse...
