The rest of the world

Low radiation and very long exposure means cancer and a sure death. High radiation and short exposure means vomitting and sickness, possibly death.

Yes radiation will cause sickness But in the fallout games the mutations are caused by the FEV virus. In Fallout 2 the president says that the vault 13 people are the only pure people in the area due to never having been exposed to the elements, thats why they are picked for the advanced experiments because they haven't been exposed already.

There is no consensus as to what causes the mutations. Generally, some devs considered radiation to be the primary factor, while others preferred FEV.

I'd take a wild crack that the north of British Columbia Canada would be less effected then other areas. However that is the BC of our timeline; the BC of the fallout world could be much more developed in its northern regions due to the resource wars and it would be one of the main land routes to Alaska.

Not many major cities up there though mind you, or even many minor cities for that matter.

I've always thought the Swiss would come out on top. I heard they had enough tunnels to support a massive part of their population in tunnels and perhaps even vault-like complexes in the mountains.

If they had enough time, they'd survive. It's why i worry... i mean, if we all nuke one another, that's fine. But you'd like to know your enemy aren't going to swarm out, lines and lines of lederhosen-clad troops, the faint smell of cheese in the air, the fierce war-yodels echoing through the valleys...

Haha... imagine radioactive milk and chocolate. And watches...Bet they'd still be neutrals. They're suspicious anyway...

Indeed. I think this sums it up.

Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?

The Swiss would take over the wasteland with their extensive stockpiles of utility knives.

Hey don't make fun out of the Swiss, cause iff I i remember correctly they were pretty warlike and anarchistic people, that being the main factor of their unity, In the late middle ages and up till the late 18the century European Superpowers actually bribed the swiss mercenaries to stay out of conflict, and even now they have a very well prepared "popular army" (army service being kind mandatory if I am not mistaken). And how aren't you afraid of a nation were everybody has a god damn army knife  (no I am not a Swiss, or even a swiss fan :D)

Oh and about the rest of the world well I guess that they are in no better shape then the US, especially if you have an faschist and xenofob government with a backup plan for survival, what better way is there to take over the world than wiping it out, or at least send 99% of it back into the stone age, by launching nukes at everybody, the chinese being the alibi. Of course as no plan is foolproof (best ex. the plot of the games themselves) there could have been some small high tech places left intact and the rest of the survivors in a mad max state (like in the thunderdome), In my opinion 20% of the world would be like the cities of the games, the rest of them being a radioactive waste filled with al kind of mutated monsters (like in those bad horror movies from the 50's), especially those where the air currents took large amount of radioactive sand and the FEV version A. (remember the plan of the Enclave, to wipe everything out.)
