The Shield and Sons of Anarchy and other FX programs

First time out of the vault
Let us talk about them!

I'm especially excited for the final season of the Shield. The Sons of Anarchy series looks good because I star in it as the sage mentor biker gang guy.

The Shield is awesome. Vic Mackey is one of the best characters in television history. I haven't seen a trailer for Sons of Anarchy but I've heard it looks rad.

I caught the first few episodes of Damages and really enjoyed it but my schedule is so hectic that I have to catch up with most television on DVD. Haven't checked out the rest of the first season yet.

You should continue watching Damages. It gets even better as the season goes on.

I've always been a big Dennis Leary fan so I love me some Rescue Me. Once you get past the severe dysfunction on one side and the lionization of them as heroes on the other side, it's a very human story.
It's funny as all hell too.
I guess there won't be new episodes until April '09 becasue of the writer's strike though. :(

Rescue Me started out well but it's turned into too much of a soap opera recently.

I agree, but I still like to watch the show.

Sons of Anarchy - has some potential, but I wasn't really blown out of the water by the first show.

I like the Shield, but I think the show has been strung out too long. I agree that Rescue Me is too much soap opera. I can't watch it.

Missed Damages but I heard it was good. Hope its out on DVD.

They put up the pilot for Sons of Anarchy on Hulu.com. It's much better than I expected and the actors are top notch. The main guy could lose that stupid walk though.

totally unrelated, but i kinda fell in love with "scrubs". since im not normally watching sitcoms: are they all that good nowadays? and which ones would you recommend?

Sons of Anarchy has great potential, I started watching The Shield aboot 4 months ago and was hooked. Sure it has been stretched out but there isn't a cop show that can replace it.

30 rock would be a great show to check out, if you enjoy BBC comedy check out The Mighty Boosh, How Not to Live Your Life, Saxondale.

most sitcoms are shitty, here are some good ones:
it's always sunny in philadelphia (which is an fx program)
black books (british)
arrested development
spaced (british)

thanks man

forgot to mention it: shield is the shit. it gets you really hooked, great characters. and thats what i like about scrubs - in all its hilarity, the characters are funky. and, since i cannot always watch people kill each other (and my temp gf likes scrubs and HATES shield). ill take a look into the other "sitcoms". we both refrained from german tv, since it is horrible.

edit: generation kill doesnt live up to my expectations. characters are horrible. even black hawk down was better in that department (dont get me wrong, i really like that movie, but it sorely lacks in building up its characters)

I agree. It seemed kind of predictable.

As for the Shield- I liked the first few seasons better. [spoiler:30e2d05886] I think the mistake was to make Vic too likeable. Yes, he's a crooked cop but, hey, he's underpaid and has an autistic kid... make that 1 autistic and maybe another. Glenn Close and Forrest Whittaker were great, but in terms of story, I think the show began to slide when the plot dragged out after Lem's death when they should have wrapped it pretty quickly after that.[/spoiler:30e2d05886]

welsh, perhaps some spoiler alert before your post?. It would be a shame for someone to read that before even starting to watch the show and have it ruined.

spoiler tags rock

[spoiler:a3ce6558c0]ending of THE MIST[/spoiler:a3ce6558c0]

the protagonist shoots all survivors including his son when confronted with a seemingly desperate situation (car outta gas, still in the fog). when trying to shoot himself, the gun misfires; shortly after that, the tanks roll in and the mist clears up.

thx for spoiling shield, welsh!
