The SIMPLE License

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I checked the relevant "Vault" literature, but found nothing. I was wandering whether the SPECIAL system is now licensed to, or an intellectual property of Bethesda, since they employed some mutilation of it in FO3. Is there at all a license to SPECIAL, or is it some kind of informal arrangement.

I'd love to see (actual) rpgs utilize it, it was versatile but simple (not s.i.m.p.l.e.). Oh, and all the relevant information would fit on a single 640x480 screen...

Anybody in the know?

its realy not that hard to make your own variant system

just use some or all of the below
Str
Dex/PP
Pe
speed

Int
Per
Will/wis or both
cha
Luck-skill
and use modifyers just like Fallouts or use your own. lots of games do that to some degee or other.

I know. But like I said it was especially flexible and easy to understand, AND comprehensive. I think Fallout was the first "real" rpg I played. Apart from my general dislike of fantasy, I didn't get into Baldur's Gate et cetera because of how intimidating and unintuitive the system was. (Sorry, I missed out on D&D). I actually started playing BGII just this week, thought I might try it out since I bought a copy and was hungry for a genuine cRPG experience. So far (I've just gotten out of the initial dugenoun) its okay, but the layout of stats is quite bad, too many tabs and scroll menus (as said before, Fallout had everything on a single page, at a lower resolution!)

And, perhaps the best thing about special, were the traits and perks system. It made character design FUN. Okay character design in D&D can be "fun", but it was a different fun, and an overly labourious process. Argubaly analogues to traits and perks could be implemented, but why (overly) mess with whats already near perfect. A propos, isn't Age of Decadence based on essentially a hacked SPECIAL?

Lastly, did someone change the topic title, or did I actually accidentally(?) refer to SPECIAL as SIMPLE?

Bethesda sucks. I hope their office burns down if they decide not to make a tabletop Fallout within the next three years.
