The Ultimate Movie Thread of Ultimate Destiny

Rewatched Idiocracy. While it's still very funny, it honestly feels like a horror movie at certain points because its portrayal of human society is feeling less and less exaggerated with each passing year.
We're fucking living it in the old USA.

Camacho and Trump are disturbingly similar.

I'm going to try to watch at least one horror movie a day this October.
Just finished Cabin in the Woods (2011). I really enjoyed it. A fun concept that plays with the clichés of the genre and has good special effects. I appreciate how meta the film is with the slasher film clichés from character types like the dumb jock or the last girl, to the typical slasher scenarios being ultimately in service for a human sacrifice to appease some eldritch deities (the audience). Also appreciated the NIN song at the end credits.

Just finished The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). The biggest takeaways for me were the amazing cinematography and how lean the film is, with its runtime being about 80 minutes.

I finished Night of the Living Dead (1968). I had seen it twice before, once last year and some years before that. I like how the zombies use weapons and how the black and white film really allows the zombies to look pretty believable. It is interesting how the Government seems to get a handle on the situation overnight when a lot of Zombie media seems to show them being run threw pretty quickly.

I re-watched 28 Days Later (2002) in preparation for 28 Years Later, and it's still good. The video quality wasn't too good since it was recorded on a cheap camcorder, but that also adds to the atmosphere in a way. Cillian Murphy was great in this, and it's interesting how big the guy has gotten since this film.

Trick 'r Treat (2007) is an anthology horror film that has all of its stories take place on the same Halloween night in a small town. I really dug the vibes of the film as well as the effects of the various monsters. I will say it's more of a fun horror film rather than a truly disturbing one, though I can get into both.

Creep (2014) was a very creepy film, as its title suggests. It follows a videographer who accepted a Craigslist job to film a guy for the day. Things get creepy from there. Overall, I liked the film. I would say it's good but not great.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) is a classic everyone knows about, even if they have never seen it; they know Freddy Krueger. I had previously only seen Freddy vs Jason and bits of a later Elm Street movie on television when I was younger. I enjoyed the movie and really liked Freddy and Nancy. I also thought the ending was cool, though I won't spoil it.

Today I watched two films. A Nightmare on Elm Street II: Freddy's Revenge (1985) and Friday the 13th (2009). I enjoyed both of them. Elm Street II had Freddy change it up a bit after the first film. With a focus on some sort of possession. The Friday the 13th remake had Sam from Supernatural and Jason being a libertarian weed farmer who is innocent of all crimes. Those teens violated the N.A.P.

Yesterday I watched Cloverfield (2008). A found footage film about a monster attacking New York City. I remember watching it many times on DVD and still enjoy it, even though I still have the whole film memorized since then.

Today I watched Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988). A very stylish but not so scary horror film that has great effects work. The klowns all look cool and grotesque, with very inventive and thematic abilities are enough to watch and re-watch the film on its own. What keeps it from being a great film is the script and the human characters, who are very flat and uninteresting, even annoying. I always thought Killer Klowns was something that ought to have been a franchise, but outside the recent game, there hasn't been a sequel. I have heard there is a remake in the works, and I think the Killer Klowns could be one of the rare remakes that improve upon the original film. As long as they maintain the quality of the special effects and designs.
