Well since it seems like the Fallout series is branching out, I just want to say that I would love to see a 1st-person Fallout type game...with same type of mission and stuff, just in 1-st person...oh and also, if there was a huge mmorp of Fallout that would be fun too, Image when u start you have just a small shack in the country somewhere, and your the only one who can see it on the map...you and anyone hwo you choose to align yourself with...and there would be already establisged town likes New Reno and stuff all over the country, but when you first start you wouldnt know about any of that...and it would like take you a good 3 days or so to cross the entire country by foot (real-time) or more...and you could goto some towns and hire ppl to upgade your house, but you would have to do something for em, or pay em some kind of huge amount...stealing would be made much harder...and if you were caught stealing from a person in a major town everyone would rember you for it for the rest of your char's life...also the town chars would have to be made horribly strong so its impossible to kill em, so no one person goes into a town and kills every citzien in it...there would be alot more jobs availeb too, like you could be a drug pusher, or the slaver, a pimp, or a protitute...etc...Power Armor would be extremly hard to get...so would the bigger weapons in the game...I just like the whole Idea of starting your own house, and if you become rich slowly build it up to be en established town, which you can invite ppl to, hire bodygaurds for, establish banks, hospitals etc...and become mayor instead of a warrior, of course that would take quite a long time...well anyway...any one have anythoughts?

But aside from that:

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Dec-26-00 AT 08:25PM (GMT)[p]Sure, let's kill the name of Fallout like Microprose did with X-Com.

Instead of 'X-Com: The Bog Roll' as the joke has been going on, it would become 'Fallout: The Bog Roll'.

MMORPG has been argued to death, and it WILL NO LONGER BE ENTERTAINED HERE. Check out the archived links in a message that is soon to be locked in the Fo3 board.

As for a first-person perspective...

You want it to be like a FPS? Why the hell? So it could go like Virtue Raider or some other bastardized series?

And people are wondering why the old and good series are dying...

X-Com, Ultima, Wizardry, Might and Magic.

Do you want to add Fallout's name to that list?

Why the hell not! I'mm all for it! Let's go ahead and kill Fallout by making as many shit games as possible and slap it's name all over the place. Hell, people have even said they'd take a steaming pile of dung or a box of broken glass if it had Fallout's name on it, so why dissapoint them? Let's give them what they really want! Some any old shit with the name of Fallout on it.

That idea of branching widely out has been tried before, with a much older series with more firmer roots and fan base. Now all that's left of it is a shitty online game.

Why the hell not, let's kill Fallout. :-)

Ya

Ya i have some thoughts.
Why call the game FALLOUT.

I can somehow understand why call FO:T Fallout, but Fallout-FPS?
What's fallout about it.

Why not call it: WASTELAND WARRIOR
or Mad Max - The next Generation.

Or something.

Why do you people have so many ideas to make Fallout (or things in the fallout world ) SO DRASTICALLY different and new - and yet keep the name Fallout, as if you didn't like what you saw in the BEST-FIRST-2...

Btw... why did you go so hard on trying to DESCRIBE how Fallout FPS would be when it's pretty obvious to everyone...
We all know Fallout (or used to know it, before it *mutated*) and we all know FPSs...

FALLOUT is not just the fallout world.
Which means that branching it is maybe GOOD for the genre lovers, but not good for FALLOUT, or its fans...
Fallout is the atmosphere, the interface, the dialog, the SOUNDS OF PRESSING BUTTONS, the music, THE 256 COLORS and the humor.
and of course, the STORY(ies)...

Taking them out is - indeed - abusing the Fallout name for mutilation - into another Genre - another Crowd - and a different amount of money.

But there it is, Tactics. If only it was more like the first 2 ONLY IN MATTERS OF APPEARANCE - i would be very fond of it - cause after all, it's simply Battle Fallout and it enables multiplayer - and that's exactly what i was talking about half a year ago when I discussed multiplayer Fallout...

So it's a nice thing to fiddle with between a Fallout 2 to a Fallout 3....
BUT - as i said before, the Appearance is a DISGRACE, and so is the interface and everything that is related to the visuals...
The game has become into a Hollywood-"WASTELAND"-REAL-TIME-COMMANDOS, instead of a squad-(battle-oriented)-CTB/TB-Fallout.

The Thief has spoken.

No no...

Who said anything about making these horrible games, only reasons the other series failed is because the cross-genre games sucked (except the 1sp person X-com, which wil be sweet) and when I said the part about the 1st person mode, I mean like it would be in the Fallout universe, you would just be walking around the towns in a 1st person mode...thats all..it wouldnt be suddenly some crap Deathmatch game, it would be Fallout as seen through your eyes...and the mmorpg idea I didnt know was discussed areadly, I just signed up yesterday, I usualy hang out at the Penny-arcade.com phorums...but anyways...it would be interesting, I would luv to play with thousands upon thousands of other real ppl with their own personailties in the Fallout universe...sure it could suck if it strayed too far from the bases of the series, but if it could be done right, it would be quite enjoyable....just like any series trying to go into different genres...

Hmm....

Ya, umm I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this, there is absoluty nothing wrong with series that cross genres...it creates a bigger fan base for the series, gives it more recognition, and even though one or two games may be crap, it eventualy leads to more interesting things...They way you desrcibe things: lets just repeat Fallout 1&2 and not add anything new or ground-breaking for fear that ppl might not like it or understand it...maybe I'm alone on this one, but you can't learn if you don't make mistakes or try new things...er I lost where I was going with this...o well :-) have a great day ppl...

Sure, let's have X-Com and Ultima happen all over again.

Just like what's been said about every other cross-genre X-Com game...

So what purpose would that be for? Fallout (and Wasteland) have always been in a 3rd-person 3/4 side or isometric view. Not only would it be rather superfluous in requiring a whole new engine to be made (or use the Quake III or some other engine, or go the way of Ultima IX and use a 'Tomb Raider'-esqu engine), but it would also be a BIG step into alienating more fans.

You seem to be stuck on how it would 'increase the fan base'. But you obviously haven't payed close enough attention to the Ultima and X-Com series. In UO, nobody cares about Ultima, the RPG. The only way most people play X-Com are the old games.

Basically, MMORPG is the antithesis of why Fallout was made in the first place.

"Great game series. Now let's fuck with it."

Then play WHL.

Then play Wasteland Half Life.
The mod for HL which is inspired from the fallout world.
YET NOTICE how the WHL team WISELY distinguished the mod from Fallout - calling it "WASTELAND" - for they themselves recognize it as SOMETHING WHICH IS NOT FALLOUT.

What you REALLY want - is a 1st person wasteland game, not a 1st person Fallout.
Fallout - as i say over and over, is not only the STORY of Fallout and the world (weapons, wasteland, towns, so on)
it's the interface, the music, the atmosphere, the appearance, the sounds, AND the story(ies)/world.

Anything without those will no longer be fallout - but a fallout look-alike, something INSPIRED from fallout or INDIRECTLY connected to it...

Fallout - is Fallout.
If you make a Fantasy RPG it will not be DIABLO (or whatever)
It will be whatever you make it.
And same thing about a Fantasy FPS, or a Fantasy TACTICS game...

SAME THING the otherwayround - If you make a game in which there is a Satan - and 3 or 5 base characters to choose from and BLA BLA BLA - it won't necessarily be Diablo, especially if you make it FPS/Strategy/Tactics SO ON...

And for that person who said: "so you don't want to see any changes in fallout, you just want to keep the same old thing and multiply it many times giving them different numbers"
No.
I want to see NEW GAMES - titled Fallout - that are THE SAME as the old ones in everything that makes Fallout Fallout -
Other than that they could be taking place in France for all i care...

Keep the GENERAL APPEARANCE, the feel, the atmosphere, the basic interface and the core elements (RPG, TB...) - and you got yourself a fallout - THEN you could do whatever u want with it to make it new and different.

it could be in 1287x1024x64bit resolution - as long as it keeps the grainy, dirty, unclean and contrast-full feel of the BEST-FIRST-2... and it's not SHARP or CLEAN or SMOOTH...

640x480x8bit preferred.
