This month is now two years that I still have not purchased Fallout 4

First time out of the vault
Two days late, but today marks two years and two days that I still have not purchased Fallout 4.

I got the chance to play the PC version of Fallout 4 on PC on Steam on May 26th, 2017 when ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios gave it a free weekend.

Playing Fallout 4 was a huge disappointment for me during the free weekend on Steam, the shooting is the only thing that felt better, the stories for the quests lines just felt very badly written and lacking of options.

I do not think I will ever purchase Fallout 4 or ever play Fallout 4 again.

I just want to say I am very happy I saved $60 dollars (USD) plus whatever the amount totals up to with all of the DLC's and expansion pack that they released for sale.

Is there still any person who has not purchased Fallout 4.

I didn't and I wouldn't have gotten it... But my friend gifted it to me on a christmas. I was already right, there is no way I would have bought that game.
And the same goes for any more TES games. After Skyrim I know I will not buy more TES games.

I gave Bethesda the benefit of the doubt and bought Fallout 4 close to release thinking they might have taken some inspiration from New Vegas. Big mistake. It was even more streamlined than Skyrim and barely played like an RPG. It was more like a campy Far Cry game.

I'm proud to say that I never bought any of the DLC, the GOTY edition or any of that Creation Club crap. I was tempted to buy Far Harbor when I heard it actually had speech checks. But there's still less than the introduction to New Vegas' Honest Hearts...which is just pitiful.

I don't think I'll buy another Bethesda game again if they keep removing RPG elements and implementing anti-consumer business practices like paid mods.

@OP:

Since you bother to create a thread about it, I have a feeling that not buying it still bugs you somehow, and you might still buy it some point in the future... I believe you still need to take a few more doses of the anti-Bethesda drug. :D

When I finished playing Skyrim, I decided not to pay for (or bother to pirate) anything made by Bethesda ever again. I was expecting "Skyrim with guns"... and FO4 was not even that.

Never bought Fallout 4. I'll also think twice before buying a game from the Fallout franchise again. Too many good game series go down the shitter because the developers try to reach the mainstream crowds.

I checked out of Fallout 4 before it was even released. I sometimes feel that I may have rushed my decision a bit, but then I see the steaming pile of mediocrity that is Fallout 4 and I know I made the right call.

When I found out that it would be made by Bethesda (so no chance of a good story), the removal of skills and the use of a dialogue wheel (which I hate), I pretty much decided it wasnt worth trying and I would be better off buying other games.

Im pretty sure I wont be buying any Bethesda games anymore. They are interfering with mods now, and mods were the only thing that made their games worthwhile.

Bethesda is doing immense damage to the industry as a whole with their paid mod scheme. Though I think it's probably just their way of implementing the microtransaction crap that the whole industry has gone crazy about. But there's a good chance this will simply spread to other developers and games. Modding scene was one of the few good things still left in gaming and now Bethesda is destroying it. Hopefully it ends up killing modding entirely so they don't get any more out of it. Though the whole thing's making me feel defeatist about everything now. This industry can't crash soon enough.

I thought Bethesda would learn from New Vegas. I pre-ordered everything, season pass included. I got a game I would have paid 20 buck for, tops and with all DLC, but $90. Never, EVER doing that shit again. God help Obsidian if they make another Fallout game cause I'll wait for the Ulimtate edition. I am never ever getting hyped for a game ever again.

Been a gamer before most of you were born. Started on Pong. Not going to be a hater like the other posts. Life is short. It's a game for God's sake. Good or bad it's still a game. It isn't life or death. For all it's flaws it's fine for me. I've been to 3 wars in 24 years in the Army. Played PC RPG games as an escape and a diversion. That is what it is for me. You want strong writing? Read a book. Want excitement. Go out and jump out of a perfectly good airplane. No game is perfect or everything you want it to be. And that is fine by me. Frankly, the wasteland in any of it's forms is like home to me. Just my 2 cents. Take care, be safe, and be a decent human being or ghoul.

I don't see anyone acting as if this is a life or death situation.

This is fine and all, but I don't see you addressing some real, more important problems, like RPG mechanics and also consistency with the established canon.

No game is perfect or everything you want it to be.
If you keep going by this, "No [insert whatever] is perfect" mindset, nothing is going to ever improve. And I think no one actually want something to be everything they want it to be, because in case of Fallout, all that people really want is a proper successor in terms of RPG mechanics and also faithful to source material.

Even though I've played Fallout 4 without paying for it (Ar!) , I still feel like I wasted time and hard disk space. The experience has warded me off Bethesda as a whole.

Even with all the DLCs put together, I wouldn't touch the game even if it was being given away for free.

Except criticism does not equate to hate.

In fact I'd say one loves something even more than a non-critical fanboy if they are more than willing to critique it.

EDIT: Also, the franchise prior to Bethesda (and some sub-par entries) had both good writing and excitement to varying degrees. In fact, New Vegas (the one by Obsidian during Bethesda's current control over Fallout) is regarded to have both in droves (or at least has more of the latter thanks to the Gamebryo engine being a poor engine for combat gameplay).

If it wasn't for the stupid DRM, Steam, anti trade-off online digital distribution system I would have given Fallout 4 away for free to anyone who wanted it. But now, it's forever stuck in my steam library... just taking up space with its stupid grayed out name.

Why Steam, why do you taunt me with this horrible purchase? I was young, naive, and looking for a good time. I didn't know it was going to hurt so much.

All valid points. I might have not clearly explained myself. FO4 is severely flawed. No disputing that. I came into Fallout during 3's release. I was not in on the original incarnations. I have loved 3, NV, and mostly 4. I claim no FO purist status or position. Bethesda has mucked it up. Yet, i still hold my nose and play. I have enough real world problems to not loose sleep over the whole situation and game issues.

Again, I don't see where there's anyone in this forum who has shown this kind of 'losing sleep over games' or even treating it like life and death. And of course you would still 'hold your nose and play', because you haven't played Fallout 1&2.
