Thought Experiment: "Not a Hero" Courier

Because why not, I'm thinking of an interesting idea for how a Courier would react to the Four Endings who was removed from the typical messianic motivations of your normal Good Karma Fallout protagonist. Basically, a character who comes to the Mojave Wasteland to do a job and then gets pulled in without a desire to do good necessarily save beyond his potential friends and close ones.

Who does he side with for gain and what sort of decisions would they make?

Would they even make it to the Battle of Hoover Dam?

They're still a badass, just a selfish one who isn't inclined to get involved unless there's a percentage or it will benefit them or keep them from being killed.

What quests would be affected.

Well, depends who and where those friends are. Are they NCR citizens? Legion? New Vegas?

Overall, if you only care about money and luxuries, go for House with a good or neutral karma. He gives you amazing apartment where you and your friends/companions can live + every desire you would want.

To me you've stated two different "Not a hero" characters here. The first paragraph gives off the idea of someone who's reluctant to go crusading for any side but will not abandon friends/close ones, whilst the second paragraph is more of a mercenary type who doesn't care about anyone, just profit.

Well, it's baby's first antihero OC. So one character, technically.

Sorry, I'm attempting to give a broad spectrum for where you guys might go but may have confused the issue. I meant someone who isn't necessarily evil but might be tempted to it by sufficient offer of reward.

For example:

A "Normal Person" Courier might be someone who would immediately balk at involving themselves in things like the New California Republic's War with the Legion. They might consider their job done after meeting Mr. House and delivering the chip. They might be tempted by his offer of far greater riches but find the possibility of going up against Caesar's Legion daunting due to the terror they leave in their wake.

They might side with Mr. House or the NCR because of the former's promises of rewards but they might also go with NCR simply because the former has an army back behind them so that it's less risky.

A normal person Courier might use Speech and non-violent methods predominately to avoid getting themselves killed and the big choice between NCR and Mr. House might be the BOS as destroying an army of superpowered mercenaries may be out of their job description. They might side with NCR simply because a peace treaty is the best option to avoid having to fight them.

They might also blow the Bunker Up after they see what happens to the Followers.

If he was going after money he would go pro House.
If he wanted to earn some favours to use in the future he would go pro NCR.
In both he would do as much good as he could for Legion to play safe (possibly stealing quite a few NCR dogtags to turn them in the Cottonwood).

If you go for a full evil, and kill everything route your only option is to use Yes-Man. Sure you can opt to not kill another faction on sight, but to be truly the scourge of the earth everyone must be exterminated.

Tell you what though, those kill everything play through's really are a lot of work.

However if you courier is a sissy sure they can side with the Legion or Yes Man, and not kill everyone focusing only wealth or just being an edge lord.
