So Fallout was good enough to warrant the console BoS.

BoS only exists because Herve Caen was a complete and utter idiot who thought Interplay's future lay in changing their oldest PC franchises into new and hip console games.

I'm missing the bit where you're supposed to be able to play without firing a shot. All I seem to hear is: "Look! Trolls! Orcs! I mean mutants that look like trolls and orcs! Lots of them! Go kill them all! In violent ways!"

Can't we sue them for lying? For saying stuff like "we're staying true to the origins" and then totally changing it?

Maybe they'll re-release Fallout 1 and 2 (since they have the rights) and make it like Fallout 3, just so we can't call them liars.

Well they are clearly taking the position that Fallout 3 is what Fallout should have been all along, if only they had the technology back in the Stone Age of 1997.

Fallout, whether you liked Oblivion or not, odds are you will probably like Fallout for the same or different reasons, depending on your perspective.

you don't get more ambiguous than that....

"you might like it... or you might not... the reasons you do/don't like this game will be the same.. or different..."

So the basic evolution of the Spin to this point:

First, it was “This will be totally faithful to the core elements of Fallout, this is NOT Oblivion with Guns”
Then we had “Destruction is the new TREES!”
Next, it was “Oblivion and Fallout are the same type of game really, big go anywhere do anything world”
Now we have “Dungeons, for lack of a better word”
Leading to: Oblivion with Guns…

[yes, I skiped a few, feel free to fill this list in ;) ]

Meh, I’ll be very surprised if it’s as deep an, say, Stalker at this point… looks more like Soldier of Fortune meets Oblivion on the Next-Gen systems in Pixel Shaded visceral immersion… Because you’ve not seen an eyeball until you’ve blown it out of it’s socket flying past your head… a few hundred times…

You guys didn't say straw man once in this thread. I'm proud of you. :)

And as deep as Stalker? Stalker's really shallow if you look at it as an RPG, fairly deep if you look at it as an FPS. I've got higher hopes for FO3 than Stalker-levels of RPG deepness. Hopefully it'll handle equipment and money better than Stalker too. I think the only times I spent money in Stalker was buying a radiation suit and then buying some ammo which I could've scavenged but was lazy. You can basically ignore all the little "Bring me a dog's tail" sidequests since money and equipment is easier to find than buy.

Er... Still, for all that bitching about it, I really did enjoy Stalker as a shooter. The few flaws in it hurt more since the rest is so enjoyable. Never got myself some power armor though, think I had to join duty or freedom. :(

This proves (once again) that Toddy doesn't have a f**kin clue what he's talking about.

Not really, I'm sure he's quite aware of where Fallout stands, it's just a PR exercise to say that "no it's not a niche game, it's maintream and there fore everyone would enjoy playing it, not just ultra nerds"

A company will always try and make there product appear to have a broad as appeal as possible.
